Well that IS good news. I’ve got a handful of people in my life that I’d love to tie up and intimidate, and then beat up when they start to resent their position. Good to know Denver PD thinks that’s just okie dokie.
Steer clear of the Blue Gang, kids.
Be sure to get a badge first. That’s your get-out-of-jail-free card.
I was intemperate and snarked this thread into an unproductive direction, and for that I apologize. Cops have a hard job, most people they interact with are not at their best–which is why they are interacting, and then there are just the common rabble who resent people in positions of authority. It sucks, they get their share of abuse, and yet we keep them around and they continue to show up to work anyway.
But even if 99.99% of cop interactions are totally routine that still leaves room for several horrible interactions per day, nationwide. It’s an intolerable failure rate given the level of public trust required for the badge to retain its legitimacy. And when there are breaches of that trust, the public consistently fails to see appropriate corrections, or sensible explanations for what actions are taken. It’s frustrating.
Today’s Lesson: One way to avoid police violence is not to curse and spit on a police officer when you’re handcuffed in a chair.
I read the posts before I looked at the video, so I was all prepared to be totally outraged. After looking at and listening to that piece of human trash, however, I’m not nearly so outraged.
“Just be prudent.” Sure. But in what world is it appropriate for a security guard, who is trained to be a professional LEO, to handcuff anyone, let alone beat a defenseless & restrained drunk guy? Human trash was getting roughed up by someone who knew he was wearing a body camera, and who knew he could still hide behind his badge.
This isn’t really about sympathy for the jerk in the chair. It’s how a man can restrain another man with handcuffs then beat him unconscious, and not serve a day in jail, and continue to be employed as a police officer.
How about we focus on police not committing violence?
He wasn’t even on duty. He was working as a security guard when he did this.
Time to work on getting this DA out of office.
Another way is to fire police officers who commit unwarranted violence.
