Depressing news day...

Really bad news day today.

Plane crash in Germany - 71 dead, including a number of children. All because of a Russian pilot who was too stupid to follow the orders of the controllers. Idiot. Hope you realized it before you were incinerated, you arrogant bastard.

Canada Day - Goddamn flag-burning separatist bastards! Yeah, go ahead. Have some fun while your antique political agenda dies a slow, agonizing death.

US abandons peacekeeping missions - There’s already a thread about this, but I thought I’d bring it up. Screw you, isolationists.

Curtis Joseph to join Red Wings - Dammit! This means the Leafs’ll probably sign psychopathic, police-bribing, can’t-stop-a-fucking-beachball Eddie Belfour. Or even better, elderly, washed-up, got-stomped-by-Team-Canada Mike Richter.

All in all, I’d have been better off leaving the Globe on the doorstep today.

Plane crash: Until we know what happened its hard to make a judgement. It could have been a language issue.

Canada Day: ?

US and the UN: US foreign policy has ALWAYS been never to allow any foreign power to have judicial influence over Americans especially Americans acting under the orders of the US.

And lastly, I don’t really follow hockey that closely

I heard this morning they are making a sequel to “dude, where’s my car”

it is going to be called, “no seriously dude, where’s my car?”

I hope this isn’t insulting. I mean it as an attempt at levity.

But yesterday WAS a good day.

See, it was the 24th Anniversary of the Day Your’s Truly Was Born, So She Could Grace the SDMB With Her Presence!

That doesn’t count???

Oh all right, Guinastasia. Happy birthday. It’s an honor to share a Board and a city with you.

CJ

First off: apologies for the lame rant. I’ll do better next time, honest!

From what I read at www.cbc.ca I understood that the pilot spoke English. If not, I’ll send out a hearty “Fuck you” to the bureaucratic assclowns who cut the pilot’s training budget.

A number of seperatist protesters decided to celebrate Canada Day by holding an anti-Canada rally, complete with a flag-burning. I’m against the criminalization of flag-burning, but I’m not fond of it.

Oh, I know, but they seemed to be doing better these last few months. Silly me.

Sigh…checking ESPN, I see that the Leafs have signed Belfour. What the FUCK are you thinking, Pat Quinn? If we need a team nutcase, couldn’t you have signed Theo Fleury? At least he has a sense of humour.

Jorel: You are kidding, right? If you aren’t, I’ll have to take a bath with the radio tonight…

Oh, and happy belated birthday, Guinastasia.

Minor Irritant:

I, umm, hate to tell you this, but…

You don’t really need a bath, do ya?

The cause of the crash is far from being clear. Some news reports claim the air controller made shit.

It seems to me as if the OP carries some slight prejudices towards Russian aviation, but that’s just MHO.

Because no ROC people have ever burned a fleurdelysé. Especially not in Brockville, Ontario, during the constitutional negotiations.

And, Rosemary Clooney died. Great singer.

I saw a rabbit while riding my bicycle to work yesterday morning.

My wife bought a new pair of “low rider” pants yesterday. Grrrowl.

And the Gilmore Girls was on last night.
All in all, a pretty good day for me.

Schnitte: My OP was based on the initial crash reports, which seemed to finger the Russian pilot and/or authorities. Now that the picture has become murkier, I apologize. I was misinformed, and definitely did not intend to display any prejudice against Russian aviation.

matt_mcl: I didn’t say that no ROC people have never burned a flag. I’m too young to remember the Constitutional negotiations, but I’m saddened to hear about the flag-burning. Had been reported in Tuesday’s paper, at which the rant was directed, I would railed against those idiots for projecting their Cro-Magnon prejudices onto the ROC. I wasn’t criticizing all Quebecois, or even all separatists, only those hundred or so who participated in that demonstration.

True, as more facts emerge, it appears that the majority of the blame lies with the traffic controllers. And, for what it’s worth, of course the Russian pilots spoke English. Fluent English is required by international law for all commercial pilots. Even the Russians abide by that.

Does Russian aviation, btw, still count altitude in meters? I think they used to during the Soviet era.

Tere is something wrong with American when someone goes into an airport and we have to wonder if it was terrorism or “Ordinary crime.”

(Sigh)

re: aircraft tragedy - What a horrible accident. But I don’t think anyone needs to be bbq’d for it, even if someone is found to be the culprit. I doubt anybody did anything on purpose to cause this. Maybe I am just a fatalist, but to modify a phrase, shit happens when you send pressurised tubes through the air at 500 mph.
