Der Trihs, any chance of you giving it a rest?

In this thread’s post #13, Der Trihs posted this blather:

Wow. Two paragraphs and an infinite amount of stupidity. I’m sure you’re proud of that.

I don’t normally bother to respond to Pit threads, but I do feel the need to point out that if you haven’t seen any backlash from 9-11 towards the ME, then you’re living in a fantasy world.

I fail to see how anything I said was stupid.

Wow. How do you get that I haven’t seen any backlash from September 11, 2001? I’m fully aware that there were a few incidents. I’m pitting your incredibly stupid comment asserting a ridiculous reason for why there hasn’t been a higher level of violence against individuals in the US.

Your posting above reinforces for me the idea that you just don’t have an inkling of what reality is.

I think it’s been established for well over a year now that he’s not really all there. I’ve taken him with a grain of salt since not long after his appearance here. Eventually his shtick just got dull and repetitive.

He should just make his sig, “I irrationally hate everything, but the U.S. more than most things.” And save everyone a lot of trouble.

You forgot Jesus. He irrationally hates Jesus more than most things, too.

Haven’t you been READING his posts?

He can’t have it both ways. Either people of ethnicity N do something and unhappiness is channeled into foreign adventurism rather than domestic nastiness OR you get domestic nastiness. It’s just incoherent.

But could Jesus create an irrational hatred bigger than anyone could…

Um, nevermind.

If you consider the way the government intentionally stirs up stuff with people from the Middle East (and has for some time now; this isn’t a new thing), it makes sense. Der Trihs post could have been written more clearly, but I get what he’s saying. I think the main difference in the two situations is that there was a lot of prejudice in the country already towards Arabs. If the government hadn’t responded in such a big way, I think there would have been a whole lot more incidences of violence against Arabs, or people who looked Arab, anyway.

What does ME stand for?

Muslim…?

Oh NM, Middle East right? (just got it when I saw the Middle East referenced above)

What “stuff” does “the government” intentionally stir up with people in the US from the Middle East?

That makes, what?, one person other than DT.

You’re kidding, right? There’s plenty of prejudice in the US against Asians also.

So, you and DT are both quite happy to ignore the simple fact of the time lapse between the attacks on September 11, 2001 and the federal government’s attacks overseas.

The governmental response I appreciated–and DT is happy to also ignore–was the one where the citizenry was informed that this is not a reason to attack Muslims or any other citizens based on their race, religion, or national origin.

But, hey, why should I expect DT to worry about facts now?

You see, though, that just reinforces the assumption of your stupidity.

You know, I was all set to beat up some Muslims after 9/11, but then I heard about the plans to invade Afghanistan, and I thought, “Ah, why bother? Dubya’s got my back on this one.”

So I went back to doing my usual white-American things like oiling my guns and going to church.

So, racist nutbags who would have committed acts of violence against Arabs or other people of middle-eastern extraction in America after 9/11 saw that we as a nation were GOING TO WAR against not one, but TWO Arab nations in the middle east, and apparently decided “Hey, that’s enough violence against Arabs…I’m not gonna attack anyone after all.”

Right. There’s lots of calls for invading Korea for sending over smart people to the US.

Even before 9/11, Arabs were the villains in half the action movies. Think of True Lies, for example. Not only that, they were portrayed being terrorists.

Who is the best known Asian in action movies here? Jackie Chan, a very popular hero.

There is prejudice - there’s prejudice against almost everyone - but this kid went against the stereotype, not with it.

Afghans are not Arabs, btw.

Hey, **DT **is an idiot, but someone has to live in his parents’ basement!

Asian prejudice and hatred has been going on longer than anti-Arabic/anti-Muslim hatred. Immigration from the ME is a more recent event. Chinese immigrants came to the US in the 19th century and stereotypes abounded of the “wily Chinaman” like Charlie Chan or the evil Fu Manchu. The Japanese came here and were relocated to detention centers after Pearl Harbor. Koreans were hated in the neighborhoods that were torched after the Rodney King verdicts.

As for how Arabs have been portrayed in “recent” action movies, you have to look at who the enemies of the day are. Movie enemies have moved from the Nazis and Japanese to the Soviet Union, to evil corporations to terrorists. If the majority of terrorist acts are being perpetrated by people of ME descent then they are the ones who will be used as an enemy. If more are being done by the IRA then you will see more movie enemies like the ones in Patriot Games. The Red Army Faction/Baader-Meinhof no longer exists and the PLO is (supposedly) a political group and no longer involved in terrorist/criminal activity. Who did Doc Brown get the plutonium from in Back to the Future? Libyans. Why? Because they were involved in terrorist activity and were thus an immediately recognizable enemy and threat. It would not have made any sense if the enemy were New Zealanders or Canadians.

There will be no reprisals against Koreans or Asians as a whole as a result of what Cho did. We are smart enough to know that the actions of a disturbed individual do not reflect upon a country or race. People did not go on a rampage as a result of Charles Whitman’s shooting rampage at the University of Texas. Australians didn’t turn into a mob after Martin Bryant went on his spree at Port Arthur. There were no lynchings after John Allen Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo were caught for the Beltway Sniper attacks or after Colin Ferguson committed his atrocities on the Long Island Railroad.

It’s great to read someone like Der Tris. He says things others are afraid to say.

They mainly don’t say it because they’re afraid of the men with straight-jackets coming to take them away, but he still has courage.

He’s a great example of what can happen if an intelligent person starts listening to conspiracy theories. My best advice to Der Tris is to go work in retail for a couple years. Preferably in a sales job. You’ll soon realise that the elaborate deceptions and plots you’re talking about are soooo unneccessary to fool the average person.

I submit he be called DUHH Tris from now on.

My own theory is that his alleged hatred of almost everyone on the planet is actually rooted in self-hatred. He needs to convince himself that he’s morally superior to the rest of us, but he’s really just an insecure, self-loathing little creature. If he had any self esteem at all, he wouldn’t let the fact that he got bullied in school scar his life so badly even now.

I don’t know, I think he’s actually quite representative of the tiny fringe of the far left. One hears that sort of blame-America-first blather quite frequently on college campuses.

You could be right . If so perhaps we should extend him some kindness ln case he ends up with some semi automatic weapons and ammo that he doesn’t know what to do with. Peace be with you Der Tris.

p.s. I’m familiar with some of his earlier writings :frowning:
