Describe a movie you saw and liked as a kid but can't remember its title

Wonders of Aladdin (1961)

Well done. Did you know it already, or did you search for it?

The Silencer, 1992. It was available on Youtube at least recently.

I got one.

Color film, mid late 60’s or early mid 70’s. It was a contrived war drama-the key scene was the ending where this small band of soldiers (may have only been two guys) had to fight their way through enemy lines to get back to their own part of the front. The CO and some of his retinue were watching them struggle forth, but had some rule or such which prevented them from going out and helping them back (or the CO was just a total ass).

It may have been Cross of Iron (which had a similar scene), but when I saw that film years later it didn’t ring a bell-would have sworn that it was an American army, not German, and the last guy bought it before he made it back (in CoI James Coburn makes it back against all odds).

Thank you! I think that must be it.

Was it set in WW2? I have this vague memory of a movie set in the Vietnam era about an American force operating clandestinely in Cambodia or Laos, and they had to make it back across the border before they could be evac’d.

My first thought, although this is certainly stretching it, was that you were thinking of Southern Comfort. This is a film about a group of Louisiana National Guardsmen which takes place during the years of the Vietnam War who are doing a weekend exercise in the swamps of Louisiana. They get a bunch of locals angry at them who then decide to kill them. Two of the nine guardsmen survive and make it out of the swamps alive. That’s not very close at all, but as I tried to figure out anything closer, I came across the following list. Are any of the 17 films in this list which came out between 1965 and 1975 the film you’re thinking of?:

I once seen a movie about scientists in a secret base doing experiments to open an interdimensional portal. A creature came through and starts killing everyone in the base. It had the ability to take any form it wanted. The two scenes that stand out the most in my memory is one scene were a heavy set female cook thinks she is chasing a mouse through her kitchen and gets slaughterd, and the very end where it approaches the last two people left alive, telling them that all it wants is to go home. I seen the movie in the summer of 1992, so I am assuming it is an 80’s movie. Cannot for the life of me track down the title, any help is appreciated.

This sounds like the 1980s version of the “The Thing” The Thing (1982 film) - Wikipedia

Thanks.

I wondered about a movie for a long time, half-hoping I’d just dreamed it. But, turns out, I’d seen this thing. It’s currently on YouTube. I would suggest that you avoid it.

Still wondering about a sci-fi TV program from the 1970s. But, I’d sure there’s a different thread for that.

Tell us anyway.

What I remember is that it concerned a family which had once been in an important political position, but had been cast out. The father, just before he was removed from his important job, stole a crystal that was essentially a key that would allow them to travel freely, unlike most of the population.

So, the family was on the run from the authorities. In each episode, they had to pass through a new city or region, using the crystal to open the portal to the next city for the next week. I seem to remember the detail that there were 36 of these cities and I thought it was convenient, because at 13 episodes per season, it would take them exactly 3 seasons to pass through all of the cities.

They all wore flowy robes. There were lots of crystals and 1960s new age type set decorations.

Otherwise, I don’t really remember much.

I’ve got two suggestions. Both were about a group travelling to a different zone each week. Not sure if it required crystals.

The Starlost

The Fantastic Journey

Only a little bit of the plot description that gvvggv34 gives matches the plot of the 1982 version of The Thing. The piece that matches is the idea of their being just two survivors who confront the creature at the end. The rest really doesn’t fit. If The Thing has anything to do with gvvggv34’s memories, it could only be from mushing together the plot of several movies. This happens fairly often. Perhaps another element in this mixture is the 1964 movie The Time Travelers, where researchers are working on a time viewer which turns out to be a time portal that sucks them through it. But neither film has anything about a cook chasing a mouse and getting killed, if I recall correctly.

I’ve read through a bunch of different descriptions… I’m pretty sure that I am remembering Otherworld.

I would’ve never guessed it was from the 1980s… Memory is a funny thing.

Although, I am now a little interested in seeing Starlost, to be totally honest about it.

I saw a movie as a kid, so thats some 25-30 years ago. And that movie has been stuck in my head since then, and i have tried to find the movie ever since. But i dont know the name.
-This is what i remember from it.

The moive starts with a helicopter with scientist in suits flying into this remote village/town. And evryone in this town is dead. And they have died instantly and frozen stiff at the moment they died. Someone died walking the stairs and ect. The only survivor it seems like is this baby in a crib.

Thats all i remeber…

The Andromeda Strain

Actually, there were two survivors, an infant and an old man.

Sorry, that link goes to the novel.

This Linkgoes to the movie.
