Due to some hardware issues, i swapped a couple of hard drives around recently, and decided to make a newer drive my main, OS drive. Rather than mirroring my old setup, i decided to start fresh, so i reinstalled WinXP.
On my previous installation, i used Copernic Desktop Search as my search utility. I was pretty happy with both the performance and the interface. Now i’m ready to put a search function on my new computer, and before i simply go with Copernic again, i wanted to get some opinions on other options.
I know that Google Desktop does a very good job of indexing and searching, because i’ve used it before on other people’s computers. The only thing that puts me off a bit is the layout. I prefer Copernic’s tab-style format to Google’s list.
The main alternative that i’m interested in getting opinions about is Microsoft’s own Windows Search, which is available for XP, and which is (i assume) the same search feature that comes installed with Vista. For those running Windows Search, how do you like it? Have you used other third-party apps like Google or Copernic? How does Windows Search compare? Does it use a lot of system resources? Is it fast?
I guess that, in the absence of some compelling reason to change, i’m inclined to go with Copernic again, but if there’s something i’m missing, i’d love to hear about it.
