Dessert Forks

My daughter asked me about the history of the enlarged tine on a dessert fork.
I can’t find any information anywhere.
I even looked in the SD archives.
Any help would be appreciated.

Here’s a thread about why forks have different numbers of prongs and are curved. Nothing about enlarged tines, though.

I use the side of the fork to cut off little pieces of my cake.
