I’m looking for some good reference on the devil for a horror story. Know of any good books about Satan mythology? It doesn’t necessarily have to be Christian either. Any embodiment-of-evil characters would be great.
Well, you might consider The Encyclopedia of Hell by Miriam van Scott. It has information on concepts of the devil and hell from many different religions and literary sources.
There is The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.
It is about Satan and his nephew Wormwood. The book is all in letter form from the two of them…mocking the way people live, teaching the ways satan wants to operate, trying to convert people to satanism.
Hmm…Screwtape…Wormwood…
Tapeworm?
Woodscrew?
Whoa! WTF?
Read the all time classic: Faust , J.W. Goethe.
It’s about Dr. Faust who sells his immortal soul to the devil (Mephisto) in return for power and wealth…
Satan : His Psychotherapy and Cure by the Unfortunate Dr. Sy Kassler, J.S.P.S. by Joshua Levin.
In fact, squeels, “tapeworm” was one of the mental associations that C. S. Lewis had in mind when he made up the name. It’s very well-written, but the style can be a bit dry, and the subject matter tends to the… distasteful?
So far as I know, though, neither Screwtape nor his nephew is any sort of close “relation” to Satan himself.
