DEVO Song: Whats This Mean?

Wasn’t there another on on their first album with:

You’ve got your right hand,
You’ve got your left hand,
You’ve got praying hands.

Man, it’s been a while since I saw Boogie Boy make an appearance in the Aragon brawlroom balcony…

I would be surprised if it wasn’t about masturbation. That’s what I always thought.

Come on!

So, we’re talking about Dexys Midnight Runners now?

When do we get to the land down under?

Or should we be working in a coal mine? Going down, down, working in a coal mine, got to get down…

Isn’t it Boojie Boy, along with Chinaman (can I even say that anymore?)

Sooooooo, how 'bout that Devo 2.0?

Devo?

yea yea yea yea YA YA YA YA YAYAYA YEAH!

Gotta gut feelin’! feelin’!

It’s the video for Whip It that’s truly masterful. If anyone can satisfactorily explain the presence of the cross-eyed asian lady, I’ll paypall them a dollar.

No, it was “Rio” by Duran Duran, for 20 minutes. Which, for masturbation, is not a bad duration.

It’s Booji Boy, but it’s pronounced like Boogie. When they were making The Truth About De-Evolution, they ran out of gs in the tile set they were using for the film captions, so they substituted a j but kept the pronunciation.

That Dev2.0 thing is weird; I bought it because I saw a cheap used copy and thought it’d be good for a laugh–I was surprised, when I read the liner notes, to see that it’s the Casale and Mothersbaugh brothers playing all the instruments; two of the kids did vocals, and the others are just holding the instruments and dancing in the videos.

Jerry Casale also put out an album last year under the name Jihad Jerry and the Evildoers; the album is called Mine is Not a Holy War ; it’s halfway decent, worth checking out if you’re a Devo fan, but nothing mindblowing–the best track is a cover of The Yardbirds’ “He’s Always There.” The other guys from Devo all played on the record as well.

Dammit, now I gotta go figure out what “I Touch Myself” by the DIVINYLS is about.

First I’ll cue up “Brass in Pocket” by the Pretenders.

Is Devo’s “Triumph of the Will” about a guy on death row for rape and murder?
