Dewey,
It’s been over 3 years since I interviewed for the job with you. Since you hired me you’re been so much more than a boss to me.
You’ve been my friend, my protector, and my sounding board. I cannot tell you how much it’s meant to me to be excited to come in to work just knowing that you would be there when I arrived.
You would bring me my favorite muffin on just the day when I needed it most (blueberry).
You would occasionally leave a gift certificate on my desk for my favorite restaurant, with a note that said “I just want you to know that I appreciate you”. You even paid for me to finish school, for which I will always be grateful.
Every Friday last summer, you would make lunch for me on the grill at the office (usually hamburgers and a fresh salad from your garden).
Even though we are 22 years apart in age, I could relate to you and we could discuss anything, however mundane or explicit.
I have been working alone in the office since March. I don’t understand what happened with your back but I know that the first surgery left you as someone who I do not recognize.
You call me a few times a week, not being able to move from the couch and relate the tale of the latest “Jerry Springer”. This only makes me pine for the days when we were working side by side and I had my friend here to help me through the day.
You are going to Philadelphia on Thursday to have another surgery and I pray to the goddess that this one will return the best boss in the world to me.
May the goddess bless you and your wonderful wife and may she restore your health and spirit so that you may again do the things you love so much, like play golf, ride your motorcycle, and go on those extended road trips with your wife.
I will, of course, keep the office running until your return, however long that takes, but I would enjoy my job much more with my friend right here by my side.
Good luck Dewey, I’ve never told you this before but, I really do love you.
Honey
