So, I guess the kid saw Jesus Christ killing a woman? “Thou art dead, bitch!” That didn’t strike anybody as odd?
I didn’t watch the first half hour. So the kid saw Dexter as a savior? Was he stuck in the car trunk and freed because of what Dexter did?
It’d be a stretch, but would a picture of Jesus be the only Anglo the kid’s ever seen? All white people look alike?
I liked that they softened Lauren Velez’s character a bit.
Dexter didn’t even know the kid was in the trunk, I don’t recall how he got there. Dexter didn’t free the kid, the cops did the next day (I think Dexter was in the mobile home when the kid was discovered).
The Kid knew the mrs. was a bad person… Dexter’s stopping her ‘saved’ him… I assume that she locked him in the trunk… Kid was probably hallucinating by that point (although he seemed very lively when they opened the trunk), so yeah, I can see him substituting a ‘christ figure’ taking her out…
Of course, the show was really more about Dexter suddenly being ‘scared’… did he get hs stuff back? That was a fancy-shmancy set of knives! And while they had the proof to move suspicion to the missing husband… they still have the issue of the drug Dex used.
Really liking this show…
We finally caught an episode of this last week. A little digging around the cable box and I found the prior episodes in OnDemand. What a great (but twisted) series so far. It takes the “protagonist is a sociopath” thing (see Sopranos, Deadwood, etc.) to a whole new level.
AuntiePam, La Guerta seems to have been changed by her experience first slandering the security guard (who was being slowly chopped up) and then still being well received and supported by the guard’s mother.
I think once you suspend disbelief enough that you can accept the body being found in 100 feet of water and arranged on scene in less than a day, accepting that the kid saw Jesus isn’t a big stretch.
Yeah, I liked that. It said something about her that she was worried about how the guard’s mom would react to her. And she was quick to pick up the phone and call mom, when the son was found alive. I don’t know her background on the job, but maybe it was an unusually positive experience for her.
None of this stuff was in the book, btw. I don’t recall La Guerta being anything but incompetent and mean, with no redeeming qualities.
A little more humor this time, some good lines from Dexter.
I have to say, looking through a hole at night when you’re a kid and scared to death, I’m surprised he saw anything at all.
I am also loving this show, and the only thing that I’m afraid of is that someone really lame will turn out to be the icetruck killer.
The plot hole that irks me (just a little) is that this guy is obviously breaking into Dexter’s place over and over, yet Dexter hasn’t tried to plant a camera.
Good show.
I’ll be following the Dexter threads eagerly; I started watching when Showtime had a free weekend that turned into several weeks. I’ve seen about 4 Dexter shows and really liked them although Dexter is super creepy. I guess if Dexter put in a camera, the other guy will find it and ramp up the pranks he’s playing.
Until the body showed up, Dexter seemed to be amused by the attention from the Ice Truck Killer and was in open admiration of his skills.
Dexter’s DEA alias, if I recall, was Dr. Patrick Bateman, aka American Psycho?
Heh.
One has to maybe wonder if the ITK’s return of the body wasn’t in some way meant as a way to rescue the child as well… becuase without it, that child would’ve died in the back of the car…
Clearly the ITK was watching Dex much/all of the time… no other way he could’ve found and retrieved the body… in fact, one wonders how Dex wasn’t aware of ITKs presence when he did the dump… I assume that the location was far enough offshore that ITK would’ve had to follow to some degree.
That’s pretty good right there!
