Dexter: Starts On CBS Sunday Night 2/17

For those of you who have not seen this fantastic show on Showtime, here is your chance. Season One is scheduled to be shown at 10:00 PM (EST and PST) on CBS on the next 12 Sundays.

Granted, the language will be cleaned up, but they have promised to keep the rest of the show as is - and it is one very dark, very strange and sometimes funny series about a serial killer. But it is much more than that.

Give it a shot and try a few episodes. I think you will be surprised at how good this show is!

One last bump before the show starts tomorrow night.

I will definitely give this a shot.

Thanks for the heads up, DMark. I recently borrowed the first two discs of season one from a friend, but I haven’t seen anything beyond the eighth episode. I’ll definitely be tuning in tomorrow night.

Including the sex, nudity and ultra-violence?? I can’t wait to hear what Dex’s sister is like with all the naughty words removed. Will she be a mute?

Ha! When I saw this show on Showtime, I said to myself, “Eh, it’s OK. A little CBS-y for my tastes.” You know, the cute little kids, the cops who care oh so deeply, the comic relief (Masuzka), etc.

Not a bad show, but very meh.

(Bump, or start a new thread?)

Wow. That’s some nontraditional television. I’ll be watching for sure.

Glad you liked it. I sent out an email to some friends to let them know the show is starting. One friend told me he is already hooked and most likely will be going out and buying or renting the first season.

Another friend refused to watch it as she claimed a show about a serial killer is too disgusting and disturbing for her to watch.

How did censoring the dialogue work? Was it pretty seamless? Doakes and Deb have such potty mouths.

It was airplane-movie bad.

Doakes: I GOT MY EYE ON YOU, MOTHA-LOVER!
Deb: Thanks for the freakin’ donut, Dex!

And so on.

I’m so glad I have Showtime.

I am addicted to this show. My mom got hooked on it last year through a coworker, and she gave Season 1 DVDs to every one at Christmas. We went through it really fast, and have managed to watch the first 2 eps of Season 2, which starts off a little slow and disappointingly (though within only a day of the end of Season 1, it’s hard to compare!) I am told quite adamantly that it picks up and it is very good, so now it’s just a matter of finding the time to watch them!

I can’t look at the ham in the into bit, though. No trouble with the rest of the show, but that ham, and him chewing it… eewwwww!!

Watched it again tonight (recorded) to be sure I wasn’t overreacting.

Nope.

A show about a creepy, asexual, Asperger’s Syndrome serial killer? Not your usual laff track sitcom, or even “edgy” drama (“Twin Peaks” or “The X-Files” - LOL in comparison). This is a whole 'nuther thing altogether.

Still gonna watch it, though. Gotta give them props for originality. And who the hell knows what happens next…*

*Other than those who saw it on Showtime, of course.

 Wha…?

I must’ve missed this bit. Could you add a bit more detail? I haven’t erased it yet.
My favorite part, other than the “Muthalovah”, which put me in mind of Buster Bluth at the Motherboy luncheon) was when he had captured the first victim. Said victim starts to recite the Lord’s Prayer and Dexter slaps him and says “Stop that. That never helped anybody!” :stuck_out_tongue:

Good stuff. I’ll keep watching this muthaluvah.

He is referring to the opening credits, where Dexter gets up, cuts himself shaving, prepares breakfast, etc, all filmed in a menacing creepy manner.

There should be Emmys for credit sequences and that sequence should get all of them. At least as disturbing as the show itself if not more so.

So, what does this “meh” mean? (In real words.)

The show was great on DVD, but I think I’ll skip the CBS version and wait for the 2nd season DVDs to come out.

There is, and Dexter did indeed win it (though the theme music, a separate award, didn’t).

I really enjoyed it and hope CBS follows-through on the premise of showing the whole first season (and maybe even beyond).

Ah! OK, I must not’ve been paying attention. I will upon rewatch, though. Thanks.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this show for some time now. I don’t have Showtime, so I was definitely looking forward to it.

This has got to be the most original and bizarre premise for a TV series ever. But good! I also appreciated the backstory, filling us in on how Dexter got to where he is.

That being said, I have one basic problem with the show. It’s got to be one of the worst-acted and worst-written shows ever! Dexter is pretty good, but the rest of the ensemble is little more than a collection of every cop-show stereotype character in history. Now, I understand that the show is about him , but I expect a bit more depth from the supporting cast if I’m to get interested.

Seeing as this is only the first episode, I’ll give it a little while longer–maybe it’ll grow on me.

The show is actually based on a novel, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, by Jeff Lindsay, so it isn’t 100% original. It is great, though.

I agree the supporting cast was weak throughout the first season, but the character of Dexter himself (and Michael C. Hall playing him) are pure awesome. He’s kind of like a twisted superhero, in a way. This is definitely not a show that will go down in history for its terrific ensemble cast, like Deadwood, Arrested Development, Buffy, or Angel, but the fantastic lead more than makes up for it.
