diabetes, low blood sugar, explanation?

My fasting blood sugar historically had been in the mid to upper 90s with a couple at 101 and 102. I’ve cut out sugared soda and am exercising fairly well.
I had a blood draw in the morning a couple hours after a 1.5 hour work-out and breakfast. The blood sugar was 69. Is this of any real concern?

Also I find that I really don’t understand the details of diabetes. I know that you have to have insulin to get the sugar out of your blood into your cells, and if not enough insulin you wind up with too much sugar in the blood. But I don’t really follow ‘hypoglycemia’ and how that is related to diabetes. Injecting too much insulin?

is it normal that I had such a low reading after a workout and meal?

I’m not looking for medical advice; i just would like some information.

Hypoglycemia is a problem for diabetics who are on meds that lower blood sugar. Insulin and the sulfonylureas (like glipizide, glyburide) are the chief culprits. Overly aggressive treatment of diabetes can be worse for one’s health than underly aggressive approaches, as low sugars can kill and do it quite quickly.

However, a blood sugar of 69 is nothing to worry about for a diabetic who is on no such meds. Nor is it a problem for you, with the history you describe here. It sure doesn’t sound like you have diabetes, from what you describe.

Such a blood glucose is a normal response to exercise. And does not lead to dangerous or even significant hypoglycemia for the VAST majority of people.
