First off, so the moderators don’t get freaked out, this is NOT, I repeat NOT my actual phone number. This is an internet service that forwards to my phone. Or I can turn it off. Or I can just have people leave a message. (so basically, if people start pissing me off, all I have to do is change a setting online and that’s that. Ha!) It’s a pretty dang handy thingie. Plus, it’s toll-free!
If you get really bored or just want some hot phone se…er… wait. no. If you get really bored, you can call me.
Some good reasons to call:
tell a good joke
hear a bad joke
express undying devotion
general whining
what better way to flame than in full digital audio?
test to see if the number is really me or if I’m a big liar head.
So anyway, this is the number: 877-242-8513
You can call between 7am and 11pm EST or so and be safe. If a female answers, it’s me. Ain’t no other ones around. Otherwise it’s my husband or my son, and it’s pretty easy to tell them apart. Just ask for Opal if it’s them. Please identify yourself like “this is so and so from the SDMB” or something, so I don’t sit there feeling like an idiot because I don’t recognise you
It’s an Internet service that forwards to your phone? Forwards … what, exactly? I’m all confused.
Or is it like Callwave, which is an Internet answering machine? If someone calls and you’re online, do you get a message saying so; and if so, do you then have the option to answer the call?
Is this a service you set up with your phone company? If so, what’s the cost?
from http://ureach.com/home/service.htm#tollfree - " Phone Calls: All calls you receive at this toll free number may be (at your option) forwarded to one or more of your phone number such as your home, work or cell phone numbers. If you are do not or are unable to pick up the phone, the service will automatically take a voicemail message for you. You may also choose to simply send all calls to voice mail."
It’s a toll free phone number that rings through to my home phone. You get a message (from me) saying that if you wait it will connect to my phone, then you get a message (from them) saying to press whatever for more options (like leaving a message and stuff) Then I get a message that says I have a call, and I press 1 to accept the call. Then I talk to you
I also get various other things, fax, voicemail, etc (see http://ureach.com/ for more info)
Actually it wasn’t me. I have a staff here taking calls. There is a whole phone bank of them in the next room, with little headsets on and everything. Sometimes I refill the coffee machine, but other than that I’m pretty hands-off the whole thing.
