Diamonds and Rust

I heard it as elevator music in Kroger’s today.

Speaking for me we both could have died then and there

CECIL SMITH COME TO THE CHECKOUT. CECIL SMITH COME TO THE CHECKOUT.

I stood there listening to it and people began to stare, so I went on my way.

*But if you’re offering me diamonds and rust *

PLEASE TAKE YOUR BAG AND YOUR RECEIPT. THANK YOU FOR SHOPPING AT KROGER!

  • I’ve already paid.*

Damn.

Which version?

I hope it was the Priest version but I doubt that. I knew for years that Priest did a cover for that song, one of my favorite Priest songs BTW, and one day in KMart or something like that I heard the Biaz version. I could not place the song even though I knew it.

Can’t ya just feel the liver spots coming on when this happens?

[Hijack]
Anyone else find the original versions of songs like Palisades Park, Surf City, etc, impossibly slow to listen to, after ya hear the covers by The Ramones? <sniff> Joey, Dee-Dee, we hardly knew ya…
[/Hijack]

It was Joan Baez.
Liver spots? Gad.
I really didn’t think it was Muzac stuff. Eleanor Rigby, yeah, but Diamonds and rust?
Too poetic, to much about life to sell floor wax and Cheerios.
