Also, your cite says two babies were infected with herpes, not thousands. The practice that leads to that isn’t circumcision, but a very unfortunate custom of “aftercare” for the wound, which I believe is quite rare.

No, it said 2 more … this cite said 13 others 24 or whatever number they got from whatever statistic and that it put around 20 thousands of children at risk getting it, that’s just New York tho.

Irony is someone saying that a study is misleading and then linking to an article about a circumcision technique not endorsed by the medical community nor used in hospitals and misrepresenting what it says. But, sure, don’t have people bite your kid’s foreskin off or put their mouths on it afterward. I can get behind that.

The WHO page you linked states:

There is compelling evidence that male circumcision reduces the risk of heterosexually acquired HIV infection in men by approximately 60%. Three randomized controlled trials have shown that male circumcision provided by well trained health professionals in properly equipped settings is safe. WHO/UNAIDS recommendations emphasize that male circumcision should be considered an efficacious intervention for HIV prevention in countries and regions with heterosexual epidemics, high HIV and low male circumcision prevalence.

Male circumcision provides only partial protection, and therefore should be only one element of a comprehensive HIV prevention package which includes: the provision of HIV testing and counseling services; treatment for sexually transmitted infections; the promotion of safer sex practices; the provision of male and female condoms and promotion of their correct and consistent use.

…so I’m not sure what you were trying to prove there. And decreased HIV transmission is only one of multiple benefits but the one anti-circs put the most effort into trying to disprove.

Have you read any of the studies? Both the circumcised men and the control group had education about and access to condoms.

I don’t think the results are very relevant in the US, where the incidence of HIV is so much lower, but that’s pretty good science.

You’re right that it’s not relevant in the U.S., so why cite it? And it’s not relevant, BTW, not just because HIV incidence is lower. Again, over there they are engaging in this absurd and abominable “dry sex” practice that Westerners would never even think of, much less tolerate:

To achieve dryness, some women insert chalk, sand, pulverized rock, herbs, paper, or sponges before sex. Douching with caustic liquids such as detergents, antiseptics, alcohol, and bleach is also common. The use of these substances, in combination with un-lubricated penetrative sex, can lead to vaginal abrasions and increased condom breakage—which compounds the spread of HIV.

Barbaric.

Meanwhile, look at this map of HIV/AIDS prevalence. In Canada, Australia, Europe, China, India, and almost all of Latin America, rates are lower than in the U.S., despite circumcision being rare in all of those places (which account for a huge share of the world’s population).

So, seriously: the takeaway is that if you are part of one of these fucked-up cultures where they put abrasives and caustic liquids in their vaginas to achieve “dry sex” (the opposite of what any sane person would want), then maybe circumcision could be helpful for you. If you live in the rest of the world where people have a lick of sense (not to mention decency), then no.

My GF was quite taken aback by my stamina. She claims she never got that even in her younger days. I can also perform while drunk. So…

I always thought my stamina was normal and that it was just the couple dozen or so women who had low stamina and couldn’t go as long as I could and wanted to. I wasn’t convinced that I was abnormal in the longevity of my stamina until I hooked up with an ex-porn actress who had pulled trains of dozens of men one right after the other and never got tired. When she told me I wore her out and I still had to finish myself off that it became clear that it was me who was, as Bernie Mac used to say, “Blessed.”
