Dictators are great for corona

Don’t get me wrong, I’d hate the idea of being in a country run by a power hungry micro-managing dictator 9.9 times outta 10, but during a viral outbreak, there’s no country I’d rather live in than North Korea. Sure, no one wants to believe that NK is having such great success in staving off the virus, but it does make logical sense. Because a virus is not human, it doesn’t negotiate, feel empathy, or feel lonely and go away if you ignore it too long… it also doesn’t stop at state/provincial borders.

I live in Kimberly in Canada, just a small town. Here people are acting like the virus doesn’t even exist… All it would take is for one viral infected individual to come through town and take a brisk walk down main street and through a couple stores, and half the town would be infected in days…

But ya, the virus isn’t human, so putting emotions and government reputation ahead of logic and action; these are the moves that will be responsible for millions dying from the pandemic instead of hundreds or thousands. If people like Kim flung dung were in charge of all countries on the planet, this virus would be gone by now (if not months ago).

Course our lives would be hell after that, so I’m not suggesting that we all promote dictatorships, but there should have definitely been swifter and harsher action on part of the governments, with less care about hurting people’s feelings, and more care about saving lives.

Also, if it was up to me, people out protesting the lockdowns, woulda been shot in the street, because that level of stupidity should not be tolerated… “We don’t wanna chill around the house for a few months, let’s go make a huge gathering and spread the virus around instead”… How the fuck do these people remember to breathe…

Breathing is an automatic thing… I wanna know how they manage to find their mouths with the food.

LOL… touché…

Aside from the “cure” being worse than the disease, can you trust your dictator to take the appropriate measures? Do you really think the USA would be doing better against Covid if The Great Orange One had dictatorial powers?

You might think that dictators would do better, because democracy is messy. Even if we had 90% enthusiastic compliance and 9% resigned partial compliance, we’d still have thousands of people kvetching stupidly on the internet and hundreds protesting IRL.

But I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the nations doing worst on covid-19 are the ones with authoritarian and authoritarian-wannabe leaders: US with Trump, Brazil with Bolsonaro, India with Modi, and Russia with Putin.

Something about the “the truth is what I say it is” attitude, with a cadre of followers who seem to actually believe it, a “my way or the highway”/“if you’re not with me, you’re against me” governing style, and an egotistical conviction that they can never be wrong means that (1) bad news is treated as a personal threat or insult to their leadership and (2) they have no compunction about saying whatever they think will counter that bad news – covid is a hoax or no big deal, masks are for weaklings, etc. – with absolutely no regard for its truth.

Dictators and wannabe dictators don’t make the trains run on time, they just repeatedly insist they’re on time – even when standing on the platform by a late-arriving train! – and either browbeat and fire (wannabes) or arrest and kill (actual dictators) anyone who says or writes to the contrary.

First, they were outside, vastly less contagiousness. Vastly. Most of the ones I saw wore masks. The police usually didn’t. Bad mouth them.

Second, without protest, breathing won’t be the worst problem. Suffocating ot being shot by the police will kill them first. Please get your own house in order first.

I think she/he was referring to the people who were protesting masks and lockdowns, not the BLM protesters.

In the former, the pictures I saw were masked police and unmasked protesters (social distancing? A few I saw were practically spitting at the police). The BLM protesters were much better at masking and social distancing.

To be fair, I think the OP’s “protesting the lockdowns” meant protesting against the lockdowns themselves – the maskless yahoos ignoring social distancing, marching at state capitols, carrying weapons, carrying signs equating masks with tyranny, etc. I don’t think he/she meant protesting police brutality, etc., during the lockdowns, which as you say was done by mostly masked people.

(ETA: ninja’d)

Thanks for clarifying I hadn’t picked up that.:v:t3:

Nope, cuz he’s a businessman, not a president… I mean people that were actually born/raised to be dictators. They may not be great towards humanity, but they’re not always bad for humanity. There’s a lot of stupid people out there, why do you think there’s so many Indians and so few chiefs (relatively speaking)? Critical thinking has been removed from the curriculum, and the few that appear to try to think for themselves, still aren’t using any common sense.

We’ve got all these total nutjobs claiming that the government set loose the virus on purpose in order to take authoritarian power over the people… Yea, cuz there’s nothing capitalist government likes more than grid-locking the economy…

When people act like children in times of emergency, they should be treated like children and made to do what it takes in order to move past it.

When young girls are being raped and murdered all over the neighborhood, do you tell your daughter that she can go out, but to just “be careful”? Because that’s effectively how the governments are handling this outbreak. And as for the masks, they’re equal to sending your daughter out with pepper spray or even a gun in the above example; sure, they might help, but they are not a guarantee, staying at home and away from people is.

Idk how with this generation of people that will sit around a table texting eachother on smart phones, people can’t stomach the idea of being away from other people if they’re told it’s what they have to do to be safe…

And yes, I wouldn’t say to shoot BLM protestors, but I would say to hit them with riot gear and force them to disperse and go home. If your lives matter so much, then quit endangering them (and others) by being out protesting during a pandemic… That one is just a real head slapper for me…

sigh… too many people seem to think that masking is like the be all end all. Like wearing a mask makes you immune to Covid19… masks or not, why the shit are you gathering together with other people during a pandemic to protest anything other than the right to be ‘Trans-dead’…

Assuming they actually are dong well, it’s not because Kim is a dictator. It’s because they essentially have militarized borders.

Yea… no doubt… If this thing mutates into something worse, like more contagious, and deadly; NK could become like an ark, lol… Kim Flung Dung could become the supreme world leader XD…

I’ve just been assuming Kim has had anyone who has tested positive shot.

At least the BLM protesters have a legitimate beef and a legitimate cause.

The mask protesters are just selfish idiots.

First of all it’s a first amendment right to protest and it’s what our country was founded on, so hitting them with riot tactics is totally uncalled for and anti-American. Many of them are wearing mask and many take them off when they are separated from the crowd in order to catch their breath (Protesting all day is hard).

The protest are happening outside, where the virus disperses much easier. I’d like to see any studies that show that the protest are significantly causing higher rates of infection. I am sure they are, but is it higher than in the general population?

And lastly you state that if there lives matter so much why don’t they go home. It’s not about their lives, it’s about Black Lives and how white people turn a blind eye to violence against blacks from the police and from there own kind. I have heard many people say “it’s not happening in my neighborhood or to my people, so it doesn’t matter to me what happens to them”. It’s like they deserve being punished for being born into poverty and drug addiction.

At least this is a cause worth protesting. Not like those white nationalist that went into the Michigan state capitol armed with assault rifles. The hell with those people.

I own 2 homes, one in small town western NY and one in eastern CT. Both small towns have no covid cases, and both pretty much everybody masks when outside the home and near others. What they do out of town and in home, no idea … I spend time in both homes, and otherwise do not go anywhere other than medical appointments, and I mask and glove, use copious amounts of hand sanitizer or wash hands and strip and shower when coming home, laundering my outside clothes each time. My husband and our roomies do the same, mrAru does the grocery shopping in CT, Phlip does it in NY. If we could just get everybody to take measures, it would be fantastic.

The trains would run on time too. There is a down side to dictators though.

/SMH… Jesus… Are you one of those people that would run headfirst into a wood chipper, because it’s your ‘right’ to do so…?

It is if people are paying attention to the lockdown instead of acting like entitled children.

I literally /SMH just now to this… Everyone knows what BLM is about, it doesn’t need a description… Sorry, but corona don’t give a flying fuck what color you are… Or what reasoning or “rights” you feel that you have. ignoring the lockdown is an ignorance to pretty much everyone else on the planet.

I’m going to guess that you failed exponents in school, if you even made it to that grade, but here’s a summary, A virus spreads from 1 person, to 2 more, to 4 more, to 8 more and so on. So you abusing your right to protest for a day, could effectively infect thousands, or even millions. It’s basically the simplest definition of the butterfly effect.

Only thing that’s full proof is staying away from people.

Ya think? lol… Yea, I specifically said that in the OP.

My buddy said the exact same thing. probably true, but extreme circumstances call for extreme measures. I bet people wouldn’t ignore lockdowns, or masking if their gov was doing that, lol… I’d rather hear of one person getting shot, than 5000 die because the one person lived. And like I said, putting a 100% mortality rate on the virus, would make people use their heads and take it seriously.

Apparently, North Korea just had its first reported case, a defector that snuck back in from China.

They immediately isolated the city where the case was found from the test of the country, and isolated all the different districts within that city from each other.

Of course, the truthfulness of this report is suspect.

Just plain and simple confirmation bias at work.

Wikipedia has 40+ countries listed with authoritarian rule, but you just picked ones per your own bias. Authoritarianism - Wikipedia

Some do consider Modi authoritative but the vast majority of Indians don’t. Also Modi has never downplayed the COVID crisis or attempted half ass measures like the other personalities in your hit list.
