Did 85% of liberals support the invasion of Afghanisan?

Kudos! Good job.

Thanks, zut. My impression my have been off by 10% with respect to Afghanistan in particular, but this figure could have gone up in the months that followed.

And my broader point–that it’s an outrageous false accusation to say that Bush’s critics wanted to “appease” the terrorists or offer them “therapy” or are unwilling to “stand up to evil”–is vindicated.

And the phrase “self-described liberals” is there as well, meaning, as I said, that the figures don’t include progressives, moderates, centrists, and people who prefer not to be labeled. For these, the figures can only be higher.

And if you don’t recall, Liberals weren’t real big fans of the Taliban at the time. They had been blowing up Buddhas and oppressing women, all forms of dissent, executing homosexuals, and living under strict sharia law. Not actions that the right wing caricature of the Birkenstock wearing boogieman take kindly to.

I knew a few liberalish people who were somewhat opposed to the Afghanistan invasion on the grounds that terrorism was more of a criminal problem that law enforcement should be dealing with, not a military problem. They were all in favor of removing the Taliban from power by any means necessary, though, so I guess I can’t say they were completely opposed to any invasion of Afghanistan.
