About one hour (or so—my DVR doesn’t count minutes) before the Ohio State Marching Band passed in front of the presidential viewing booth playing “Across The Field,” there was another band—looked like a military band, in all black with silver emblems on their hats—that I swore also played “Across The Field” as they approached/passed the viewing booth.
I didn’t see the parade, but the Ohio State band (excuse me, THE Ohio State Marching Band, to use the word THE as Buckeyes insist on, for whatever stupid reason) does wear black uniforms that look like this. Is that who you saw? OSU’s band marched in the parade so I’m guessing you saw them in their black unis.
Ha, well after going back and watching for a fourth time, I realized that I’d been tuning out all the ongoing prognostications about Obama’s next 4 years—halfway through they actually announced that it was the Air Force marching band (or is it THE Air Force Marching Band? )
So they were in navy, not black (it was dark… )
My guess is that the commentators were not actually positioned along the parade route where Obama was (it was CNN) and perhaps the (The) OSU band was passing them at that point, which is why I heard the OSU song being played. The Air Force band’s instruments were up and they were playing, but I have to admit upon watching it over and over (they kept cutting back and forth between Obama/the band, which made my investigation difficult!) that the drum beats didn’t look like they were matching the music I was hearing, which perhaps means I wasn’t actually hearing the Air Force band.
