Maybe they were cooking and eating supper? We used to do that before taking the kids out, but we’d hand out candy as soon as the first kids came round.
My mom got five ‘strangers’ at her house, plus my sister swung by and brought her five kids. So it was a lot fewer than she usually gets. (She used the ‘cookie sheet of little ziplock bags’ approach. Me and my brother and his kid each got a pile of those bags to take home yesterday. Yay!)
For myself, I got exactly the same number of trick-or-treaters at my apartment as I have every year since I moved here over a decade ago: zero.
Our subdivision has a facebook page and everyone who wanted to participate agreed to go the contactless route. Set a table out front with treats and watch from a distance. My wife made 100 treat bags and at the end of the night we had 3 left over.
We got just a little over 50 kids.
This is our first Halloween in our new neighborhood, so we don’t really know how this compares to previous years.
For the 20th year in a row we’ve had no T/T’rs. Not surprising in an unlighted rural neighborhood on a gravel dead-end and up a long steep gravel drive in the deep woods. Unless it’s a full moon night, I don’t even like hiking up our drive.
We set out treat bags on a table at the end of the driveway. About 30 kids came by, about the same as usual.
We got one. It’s several fewer than most years. We don’t get a lot since we live on a small cul-de-sac. But ours was Thursday and it was raining and gross.
Thanks a lot, Columbus; now I have to eat all the candy!
I’ve never gotten many – typically around four or five groups of kids, and that was about what I got this year as well.
I think there were a lot but I can’t put a number on it. The first kids I saw were at maybe 3pm. A girl ran up my steps and looked at a table on my porch (no candy there) and ran back down. She didn’t ring the bell. So I picked up my candy bowl and called her back.
Then, I saw a few more families walk past and I realized they weren’t going to be ringing bells. So, I made a shabby sign “Please take 3” and put the candy bowl on the front steps. I checked it a few times during the evening to make sure it wasn’t empty and sort of forgot about it.
When I looked later, the bowl had been stolen. I have no idea what I was thinking leaving one of my favorite stainless bowls on the steps on Halloween instead of any of a dozen forgettable containers I could have used. I’d had that one for like 15 years but at least they’re still available and not very expensive.
Howdy neighbor.
…
Hi!
I didn’t get anybody. Not that I had particularly high hopes, mind you. I asked around and was told that the neighborhood (which I moved into a few months ago) isn’t exactly a Halloween hotbed even when there isn’t a pandemic putting a damper on everything. I bought a couple of bags of candy just in case fortune happened to smile on me, but after the night came and went with no little monsters coming around, I ended up eating one of the bags and taking the other one to the office.
we had 3 usually we usually have 2 dozen …it was depressing this year
I think I got about a third of what I normally do. And people were coming out earlier than normal, people were starting around 5 when I wasn’t even ready.
I bagged my candy and put it on a table this year. I was the only person I saw standing outside. I would say most of the kids were under 10 when I normally I get a wide range of ages.
Wow! I, too, left one of my favorite stainless steel bowls on the steps. Unlike you, I took it in (with two candy bars still in it) later that evening. I would have been really upset if someone stole my bowl.
Glad you can replace it.
Usually get a couple of hundred. This year, about half of that.
I guess I should be grateful they didn’t fire it through my picture window.
A coworker told the story of the year thieves took the candy, the bowl and the stool the bowl was on.
I did see some kids roaming around, but no one ever came by my place. Funnily enough, I got a shit-ton of candy for the trick-or-treaters, so I got it all to myself, haha.
