We got 52. 3 of them were teenagers who weren’t even wearing costumes. I was in a good mood so I gave them candy anyway.
We ran out of candy at one point, so we sorted Dominic’s out into “stuff we like” and “stuff that sucks” and put the “stuff that sucks” into the bowl and handed that out to the rest of the kids that came by. Heh.
We might have gotten 20. Most were the really little kids from the street. A couple were teens, including a boy dressed as a woman, sorta - he was a hoot! Everybody got candy. I only had one bag of mixed stuff, and half of it came to the office with me this morning. Engineers will eat almost anything, especially if it’s free, so it should be gone before nightfall.
In Tucson, there is a neighborhood called Winterhaven. Part of the homeowner’s association rules are that you HAVE to decorate your place for the winter (whatever holiday you want, but it has to be something). There are busses, horsedrawn wagons, carriages, and also just people in cars that drive through nonstop for the entire month of December and more. They have parades in there, and everything. They have awards for the best yards. People spend thousands of dollars on their decorations.
Well it’s sort of obvious that a neighborhood like this also gears up for Halloween. A friend of my mom’s lives in there and my mom went over last year to help hand out candy. Every house has A LINE outside. Like 20-30 kids in line. It is a constant stream of kids. You basically sit outside your door with a 50gallon drum of candy for 2 hours. I forget how much she said her friend spends on candy for Halloween but it’s A LOT. I can’t even imagine.
We got even less kids this year than last, maybe 15 altogether. Last year, the parents said everyone was scared to go out because of 9/11. I don’t know what happened this year, but it was pretty disappointing.
Of course, the town had a big Halloween celebration this past weekend, with contests for costumes, and most of the merchants handed out candy. But they did that last year too, and we still got more kids. So, although we have candy at home now, I’m still disappointed.
Two, and I had no candy so I ended up giving them beef jerky. I felt pretty bad about that but I’ve never gotten any here before so I wasn’t expecting them.
Actually, we got about 40-50, and for the first time I cna remember, actually ran out of candy. We’re in a neighborhood that’s pretty populated with kids. Since there’s three schools within walking distance of our house, it doesn’t surprise me.
Same as dan, Jonathan, and Johnny L.A., none. Of course, I live in an apartment with electronic entry, so it might have only been kids from the building. Also, I didn’t get home until 6, then immediately went out to the grocery store, changed clothes, and went out to a Halloween party. By then all the little ones should have been home sorting the loot.
