Yesterday my mom, my sister and my grandma went to see 102 Dalmations. My mom and my grandma absolutely hated it – they said it was extremely lame, and that parts of it were dark and almost disturbing for a G-rated Walt Disney movie. They told me that a few kids started crying at one point and asked to leave the theater.
Since my mom hasn’t signed up on this board yet, she asked me to find out what other people thought of the movie.
Some of the things she didn’t like (don’t read beyond this point if you’re thinking of seeing it):
the scene at the dinner table, where the animals ate with the people.
the beginning: she said it was very slow and confusing, and that she couldn’t understand the actors because they mumbled.
the plot: she said it was contrived; you knew that the man with the hound dogs and the woman with the dalmations would get together.
She also wants me to add that she’s really embarrassed for Glenn Close; she feels that a woman who has done some great acting in the past shouldn’t be reduced to being stuck in a cake and being squirted wih icing.
So has anyone else seen this movie? My mom wants to know if she’s the only one who hated it or if she’s just crazy (her words, not mine).
I was forced against my will to see it on Thanksgiving, and I actually liked it.
I thought it was kind of crazy but funny. The food was nasty but the woman’s name is CRUELla DEVIL, right?
I think the point being that the scientists were crazy (Pavlov was invoked) and foreign. But I understood everything they said. I didn’t see the plot as being slow either, it just took a little time (what, ten minutes) for all the characters to come together.
Well, it IS Disney: of course they are going to get together. Of course everything is going to turn out alright. You know, Sleeping Beauty woke up, Cinderella won over the prince, Mulan kicked some major ass. Everything works out in the end in Disney movies.
Also, since my most beloved Disney movie of all time (and by no means am I a fan of the genre) is Lady and the Tramp, and the whole dinner date/doggie movie night thing was just too adorable for me.
That being said, I haven’t seen most Disney movies and normally wouldn’t pay $8 to see one, but I think it was money well spent. And Glenn Close kicked some major arse. How could you not love Gerard Depardeau’s mullet extraordinaire?
Finally, no one left the threatre crying, and it was packed.
