Did Benjamin Franklin Say This?

I saw this in an old ad (insurance company) in an old National Geographic. “I never saw anyone die from lack of food…but of eating, thousands”. This sorta implies that obesity was a problem, even in Franklin’s time. I tend to doubt this-how can I verify the quotation?

Perhaps he was being pedantic, and saying, “I have never seen anyone die of a lack of food, only from a lack of eating said food.” Or maybe it’s all horseshit.
