Did Christie (or his staff) intentionally cause the Fort Lee traffic jam?

Shoot. That meaningless slip on my part has completely negated the substantive part of my post. I wouldn’t think it would, but if it hadn’t then one responding in good faith would have addressed the question of Christie’s competence in addition to correcting my misuse of a single word. Unless one accepts that Christie is at best incompetent, I suppose.

No they were not. They were simply closed.

All you have to do it prove that and then, by the Doorhinge Theory of Joint and Several Wrongnesses, all of doorhinge’s posts are immediately and totally discountable forever.

I have no problem with the clueless doofus theory. Clueless doofuses are just as unqualified to hold public office as the corrupt.

In order for Christie to have a shot at being President, or even maybe go to the Senate someday, he has to prove that no only did he not know, but he couldn’t be expected to know, and it was not a dereliction of his duty to not know.

At least in my eyes, the ignorance plea never holds water unless the officeholder can prove that the wrongdoing or incompetence was done despite his best efforts to insure quality performance. Politicians should get as little benefit of the doubt as pro sports coaches. if your team sucks, it means you suck the majority of the time.

These photos from a “Tollroadnews” website article show several photos of the Ft Lee entrance during the lane reassignments, and the GW bridge tollbooths. What proof do you have that the lanes were actually closed to traffic?

I’m not responsible for what you meant to say. I can only reply to what you did say, subject to certain restrictions.

OK, you are correct on this. But get it though your head, this is a big deal. It’s not a simple ‘traffic jam’.

(“Get it through your head”? Who talks like that? What’s that suppose to mean?)

It’s a big deal NOW. On the first day, it was only a big deal to the people stuck in traffic. Except for the perpetrators of the lane reassignments, the first day looked like just another poorly planned traffic study to many people. Not exactly something that requires the governor of a State to straighten out. By the fourth day, it still “looked” like a Port Authority screw up.

It took an order from Port Authority Executive Director Patrick Foye, the first person Ft Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich should have been contacting in order to deal Port Authority problems, to straighten things out. Didn’t they have coordinated city, state, police, fire, and military drills after 9-11? Did Sokolich lose his playbook?

Sokolich is a mayor. Foye would have/should have taken his call. Pat, this is Mark. What the heck are you doing to my city? Didn’t know anything about it, Mark. Let me call my people and this will be straightened out by tomorrow morning.

It’s now known that Wildstein, and Baroni deliberately created this traffic jam. I’m interested to see if Bridget Anne Kelly is a major player in this or if she was just some stooge waiting for the stars to align before signaling Wildstein/Baroni that the time was right for their non-study study/traffic reassignment to begin.

It’s only my opinion but I believe the media outlets should be concentrating their efforts on finding out what Wildstein and Baroni hoped to personally gain from creating a traffic jam. The Port Authority is HUGE in NY/NJ transportation and shipping. Airports, sea ports, bus terminals, rail traffic, tunnels, and bridges fall under their control. It even has it’s own police department. If you want to move international cargo thru NYC (or the eastern seaboard?), you’re going to have to deal with the Port Authority. Is it possible that Wildstein/Baroni were sending a message to shippers and importers that if they didn’t play ball with Wildstein/Baroni, they might have there own personal traffic jams?

The people stuck in traffic were the people of the city. The entire fucking town was in gridlock, paralyzed because the on ramp to the bridge was backed up through the entire city. It was a big deal to every single citizen of the city.

“Just another poorly planned traffic study”? No, traffic studies are not done like that. You don’t just fucking shut down 2/3 of the lanes just to see what happens. In fact, you probably don’t shut down traffic at all. You put car counters on the lanes and analyze the data.

(Bold added)

No, they are not. Isn’t what happened a pretty good example of a “poorly” planned traffic study?

NY and NJ are involved in many road/bridge/overpass improvement projects that burden local and transient drivers. Lanes of the GW bridge had just been closed in Aug of 2013. How would the Ft Lee traffic know the difference? It wasn’t as if Wildstein had made a public announcement that he had decided to screw with the drivers or Ft Lee just because he could.

It is not an example of a traffic study at all. There was no study. Got it? That was a lame cover-up lie.

Yet another of Christie’s childhood friends waswas the PA police commander on-site. One of his duties was to tell angry motorists to call the mayor.

Thank you. :smack:

No, it isn’t, because making the statement that way implies that there are other examples of this sort of thing. “Just another poorly planned traffic study,” you said. But it isn’t, because there are no other similar poorly planned traffic studies you can point to. Traffic studies don’t block lanes. They count traffic and model its behaviour.

It also wasn’t “poorly planned”: It did exactly what it was intended to do.

For a few days, anyway. Now, not so much.

It was a poorly planned traffic study in much the same way that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were poorly planned controlled nuclear reactions.

First, give us evidence there was a traffic study and not a cover story.
Second, did you notice the headline said “overnight?” You only close bridge lanes during the day when absolutely necessary. When they had to close the Bay Bridge for days for the earthquake retrofit, they did it on holiday weekends and broadcast the news for weeks in advance.
Is the Christie playbook now to say Wildstein did it to line his pockets? Any evidence? And how is closing traffic lanes which you claim hardly anyone noticed going to scare people at the port? You’d think they’d be a bit more direct.

Not to mention that pretty much anyone who travels the GWB regularly knows the PA runs it, not the mayor of Fort Lee.

If it were a traffic study, where’s the plan? More to the point, where’s the budget? Where are bean counter’s fingerprints, who was hired to perform the study, at what cost? What committee looked over this plan and gave it the official okey-dokey? Have they been returned to the asylum, or are they still at large?

Nobody does anything like this without a budget. Because? You might not get paid. Très duh, may no?

It’s merely a “poorly planned traffic study” in the same way that a carjacking is a “poorly planned way of asking for a ride.”
