(Not my field but) As Hamster King is pointing out, the circadian cycle being longer than 24 hours doesn’t have to be ‘wrong’ and in fact may be ‘right’ and necessary.
It may be necessary to have our body clocks ‘lagging’ behind the day schedule with us constantly being ‘pulled forwards’.
1.) “He is as honest as the day is long. Which means he’s least honest on December 21st.” - The Red Green Show.
2.) When people remark that December 21st is the shortest day of the year, I tell them that’s correct - its only 23 hours. In June the day is 25 hours long so it averages out to 24 over the year. You’d be surprised how many people stop to think about that.
Studies I’ve read on the subject say 9 out of 10 people have a 25-hour internal clock and 1 person out of 10 has a 36-hour internal clock. You might be one of those people. As to why…
The simple answer is that there hasn’t been a compelling reason why people with 24 or 26 hour internal clocks would have better survival rates than those of us with 25. There might even be some advantage to having your body constantly wanting an extra hour of sleep. That would give you an incentive to get extra rest after having missed some sleep the previous night(s). In any case, the influence on survival rates is tiny. When you think about it, the time from one daylight to the next isn’t precisely 24 hours anyway, the days and nights get shorter and longer at different times of the year, and don’t forget the equation of time. Anyone who had a perfect 24-hour internal clock and got discombobulated if dawn didn’t happen at exactly the same point in their cycle would soon end up tearing out their own hair.
Edit: Rats. I didn’t realize this was a zombie thread until after I had already posted.
More recent research indicates that the human circadian cycle is 24 hours and 11 minutes, not close to 25 hours. Also note that this it the cycle in the absence of external stimuli. Under normal circumstances your circadian “clock” is reset daily to conform to the actual day/night cycle where you are. Your body doesn’t need additional sleep because of circadian rhythms.
The post is bunk, but where does this assertion come from? A quick Google search didn’t turn up any interesting woo about unexplained hieroglyphs and a Sol based system or 11 planets, etc. Just wondering where this came from…
