Interesting, I have never heard of that, but of course it makes a lot of sense.
That’s why I claim that most of my detractors despite arguing with me daily don’t actually read my posts, because I am pretty much a straight up liberal, I agree with most of their political stances and say so explicitly. The one I don’t agree with is, “Conservatives are all morons and there is nothing of merit in any conservative position, conservative is a synonym for retard and liberal is a synonym for super smart intellectual elite especially if they post on the Straight Dope!”, so because I actually defend conservative positions from time to time people just respond to the keywords and attack me as though I actually am espousing such things. For instance a lot of these knuckleheads participated in threads with me where I talked about why I was voting for Barack Obama and yet they still think I hate Barack Obama.
I can understand how people who are totally unfamiliar with my posting my have trouble discerning the OP, but others who I tussle with on a regular basis should know better.
On another message board I post on where the ratio of liberals and conservatives is about equal and people actually read my posts they get on my case for swinging hard to left after Obama was elected when I used to be pretty centrist.
And I can say I hate video games, but browsing Cafe Society pretty quickly establishes evidence to the contrary.

What a stupid comparison. If you actually put even a half-assed effort at looking at my post history you could find that I am EXTREMELY socially liberal, maybe mildly fiscally conservative except that I support UHC. You’ll find criticisms of both communism and capitalism in the same thread. You’ll see that I voted for Barack Obama, you might even find out that I switched parties from Republican to Democrat in the last election. You’ll see that I opposed the Iraq war from the beginning, and that I was even kind of vitriolically anti-military for a while, almost to Der Trihs levels.
It really isn’t my problem if your mind is broken and can only think in stereotypes.
In reviewing, I see a bunch of "lame"s, a few "WTF?"s, and several random riffs (Werewolves of London/Rapture/Rickrolling). The most heated outrage seems to be from crowmanyclouds, and even his big complaint isn’t “How dare you compare Obama with Hitler!” but “You misspelled putsch, putz!”
Frankly, I don’t see genuine outrage even breaking 10%, much less “about half and half.”
I was controlling for the people who didn’t criticize the joke at all and just made jokes of their own.
You should keep this in mind more often.
Oh, I do EVERY day. Particularly around here. It’s not that I think I am some sort of super-genius, it’s that I think there are a lot of people around these parts who are profoundly stupid.
Actually, for the last few months I’ve noticed you taking the opposite side of whatever you perceive the board to lean as, whether it be UHC, same-sex marriage, whatever. You say you’re X, but your posts repeatedly demonstrate Y.
I know a guy on another message board who was trained in Communist Romania as a professional humorist, and I had him take a look at this thread and he told me that the satire in the OP is objectively inferior to the works of masters such as Aristophanes, Jonathan Swift, and Stephen Colbert. He explained it to me in such a mind-blowing way that it made me feel like a real heathen. There are aspects of satire that make one example of it better than another. Of course, I’m not going to provide any links to any of my sources so people can see the arguments for themselves. You’re just going to have to take my word for it.
But don’t lose faith, mswas, because there’s hope for you yet! All you need to do is listen to the right kind of music to synchronize with your nervous system and stimulate the parts of your brain that make you good at satire, and you’ll be on your way to comedic genius! Now, finding such music may sound like a daunting task, but I’m aware that you, too, are friends with an expert trained in Communist Romania, so maybe you could consult with him to find out what music would be appropriate.

Instead, I would prefer that you continue to provide justifications for your OP and personal intelligence (perhaps you should tell us your IQ). Actually it was Communist Romania for one guy and Communist Bulgaria for another. The Romanian is a guy I met on another message board, and the Bulgarian was my voice coach and a very good friend of mine.

Why is it funny that I expect people I chat with daily to actually know even a little bit about the content of my posts? Why is that weird or delusional or whatever it is you are considering it?
Actually now that I think about it, it’s kind of depressing that I’ve spent so much time talking to people who actively loathe me, but not even for what I believe but for what other people believe.
