I know Dewey Bunnell got a writing credit for Janet’s “Someone To Call My Lover”, but did she have to shell out some cash?
How does it work when one artist uses another artist’s song with out permission. (As I believe was the case in this song.)
Dewey did say Janet’s release of the song increased America’s album sales, but still a huge number of people had (and have) no idea that the guitar riff at the beginning of her song was not written by Janet or any of her writers.
It’s a sample of the original recording, which means that its use had to be negotiated with America’s record label (Warner Bros.) as well as with the song’s publisher.
