I’m studying for an exam right now, but my girlfriend’s watching Grease in French. I’ve never seen the movie, nor do I intend to. In any case, all the songs are in English and I think I just heard John Travolta sing “She’s going to be a real pussy wagon.”
Is that right?
I always thought that Grease was supposed to be a corny film for the whole family. Was “pussy” not seen in the same way during that era?

You heard right. I don’t know where that term fell on the vulgar - o - meter back in the day, but maybe the inclusion of that line contributed to the film’s pg rating. Oh, he also sings “you are supreme, the chicks will cream for greased lightning” and my favorite, “you know it aint shit , we’ll be getting lots of tit with greased lightning”.
It was never meant to be a corny film for the whole family. It was an edgy stage musical for adults. Also incuded:
“You know that ain’t shit

In Greased Lightning!”
In Kill Bill, there is a vehicle called “Pussy Wagon”. Any relation?
There’s also Rizzo’s line to Zucko, “Going home to flog your log?”.

I saw the playbill for the original Broadway run. It depicts, in a photo or drawing I can’t remember, but it’s a whole bunch of people crammed into a convertible. One of the women, prominent in the photo, is clearly giving the finger.
Grease, in its original stage musical form, was NOT tame family entertainment. It was toned down considerably for the screen, and was still pretty damn edgy for a PG movie.
I guess you missed the line “The chicks’ll cream,” in that same song.
Definitely not a movie for the whole family, what with the basic moral: (a) you should have sex in high school, 'cause everybody else is doing it; (b) if who you are doesn’t get you the person you love, then change into someone he or she will like better, and you’ll get your sex.

I’ve always summed it up as “As soon as you become a slut in tight leather, happiness inevitably and immediately follows”.
Hmm…interesting. I also remember seeing the car-full-of-teens poster or playbill. I wonder now what that was.
But that’s a true statement isn’t it? Sure, it may not be your own happiness but you’ll sure be making happiness out there!
My dad worked in advertising in the 1960s. There was some cheesy ad being shot, and it involved a strange carnival float-type vehicle covered in decoration, and big signs saying “FUN WAGON”. Dad had to drive it across the city to the shoot, and he took my mum along for the ride.
To this day, my mother can’t explain why she agreed to go. She was eight months pregnant with my sister, and riding along in the open air, in full view of the passers by, in a FUN WAGON.

Yep. When Rizzo sneaks out of Marty’s slumber party to go riding with Kenickie, she kicks the other guys out of the car, saying “What do you guys think this is, a gang bang?” (One of the guys replies, “You wish,” as they leave.)
Tha Rizzo, quite the Lady. No wonder everyone wants that part in high school!
