I can’t help but notice how similar the choruses of these two songs sound:
I think the fact Timberlake and Duran Duran made a song together makes the theory that much more plausible too.

Can’t say there’s much of a resemblance, but I did want to say that I’ve never seen that Duran Duran video before in my life. And it’s probably just as well.
Lots of pop songs are written by the same few song writers. That could be the cause, not one artist ripping off another.
Yeah, the Duran Duran song doesn’t remind me much at all of “Sexy Back.” I assume the OP means the verses of the song (the “Friends of Mine” part and the “I’m Bringing Sexy Back” that start the song.) There’s some vague rhythmic and melodic similarity there, but it would never have occurred to me if you had me listen to the Duran Duran song and asked me what popular song it reminded me of. Even knowing that it was Justin Timberlake, I didn’t know until I clicked on your second link that it was going to be “Sexy Back.” I assumed it was going to be a Justin Timberlake song I had never heard before.
So, personally, no I don’t think it’s a “rip off,” and I have heard much more similar sounding songs that I don’t consider “rip offs,” either. I’d venture to say that pretty much every pop song ever written sounds vaguely similar to at least one other pop song somewhere. Like the bridge part/B section (“George Davis is Coming Out”) to that Duran Duran song sounds so extremely familiar, but I can’t quite place where I’ve heard that melody before.
Well, “sexy back” was indeed produced by Timbaland, who’s been accused of sampling other pop songs without permission.
In this case, however, I feel that it’s mostly a case of both songs using an already existing similar rhythmic structure.
Well I don’t know if it’s a rip off or not but I can’t deny the similarities. I clicked the Duran Duran link first and knew exactly which Justin Timberlake song was going to be in the second link three words into the lyrics.
I clicked on the first link (the Duran Duran song) and once they started singing, my initial thought was “That sounds like Sexyback.”
I wouldn’t say it was ripped off, but there is a similarity.
Apparently Spirit is suing Led over the opening to Stairway. In this case I think they have a case.
Stairway (in case you’ve been in a coma for over 40 years)
Moving over to Cafe Society.
The lyrics “Sexyback, those motherf*ckers don’t know how to act” and “friends of mine, say they were friends of mine” have pretty much the EXACT same rhythm. The songs as a whole aren’t really that similar but those parts are pretty much identical aside from the words!
