John Magaw resigned Thursday as head of the Transportation Security Administration. His deputy, former Commandant of the the USCG, Adm. James M. Loy, has accepted the position.
Now, I realize it’s far too early to start celebrating, but I’m immediately more confident that steps will be taken to solve the airport security problems and plug the holes in our Customs inspections. This is a guy who’s spent many long hours strategically planning against terror. As this sagacious commentary from July 2001 shows, Loy is not a 9-11 convert to this activity.
So, Dopers, is this truly a positive step, or is transportation security the impossible task the Mineta-Magaw team made it appear? Comments?
