I know Great Big Sea covered it. I’m not sure how much of a hit it was for them, though.

You’re probably thinking of Quiet Riot. They also covered “Mama, Weer All Crazee Now”.
According to Allmusic, a group called Great Big Sea did a cover of “Run Runaway” (a great song, BTW), but I don’t see where it even charted.
I remembering watching Slade perform that song on Top Of The Pops…I’m old

Slade was a great band in another respect: they let it be known that they’d cover the cost of destruction of the auditoriums where they’d perform.
