Did two women play "Marilyn Munster"?

Watching the credits recently, I noticed that a Beverly Owens, IIRC, played “Marilyn”. Hmm, I thought it was Pat Priest!?!?!

Grandpa, what bites? Ouch! Hey watch it, you old bat…

The Pat Priest Page on Munsters.com.

Beverly was only on for the first half season.

Actually, three women played Mariltn Munster. In the movie Munsters, go Home, although everyone else was played by folks from the TV show, Marilyn was played by Debbie Watson:

Yes, “The Munsters” had multiple Marilyns- just as “Bewitched” had multiple Darrins, “Dallas” had multiple Miss Ellies, “Roseanne” had multiple Beckies… and of course, soap operas hire new actors to play old roles all the time.

It’s not THAT unusual for TV shows to put a new actor in an old role and hope that people either don’t notice or are willing to pretend nothing’s really changed.

IIRC, Beverly Owens missed her boyfriend and quit to move back east. I think Debbie Watson was chosen for the movie because she was closer to Maralyn’s age and would be more believable.

That’s exactly right Johnny L.A.

I watched the Munsters Biography this past week (Cult TV) and it seems that Beverly Owens Missed her boyfriend in New York and became depressed and started crying on the set and so was allowed to return to NY where she married him.

Pat Priest, who was around 30 was cast in the role, partly because she looked like Beverly Owens and partly because she wore the exact same size clothing – no new costuming costs.

Debbie Watson was on another TV show produced by the same guys and was cast in the movie to have someone who was the proper age playing Marilyn.

And this one time, at band camp, this guy offered me and my friend $50 to play Marilyn Munster.

How often has that happened? Two actresses for Lois Lane, two actors for Darrin… Say, here’d be something fun: make a big-screen movie of “Bewitched”, and halfway through change the actor playing Darrin, with no explanation. Start out with, say, Bill Pullman, then switch to Jeff Daniels.

On a side note, they are making a big-screen movie out of “Bewitched”, with Nicole Kidman and Jim Carrey. I doubt they’ll switch to Jeff Goldblum halfway through…

Jim Carrey?! There go any thoughts I might have had about seeing that film . . .

Jim Carrey? Seems odd; the part requires a perpetual straight man, who’s the only “normal” person in the house and constantly tries to maintain the appearance of having a completely unremarkable family.

He has some pretty hammy reactions though. Lots of finger in the collar moments as he tries to maintain while ol’ Larry Tate almost sees the unicorn or whatever.

Jim Carrey? I was hoping for Matthew Broderick.

Two actresses also played Gladys Kravitz and Louise Tate on Bewitched also.

Jenny Jefferson was played by a different actress when she was on All In The Family. So were her parents.
