I haven’t felt any of the aftershocks, but it does look like the 2 larger ones occurred as I slept. That’s fine by me.
Yup, felt that one. Haven’t felt the other reported aftershocks.
I think we would have heard about it. Us Washingtonians are pretty serious about that particular building.
Felt that. Wasn’t sure if it was me or the floor.
Didn’t notice that one but I was in bed by then.
I didn’t feel these night-quakes either–and from previous experience, I know that earthquakes tend to wake me up.
The one just after 1am did wake me up. It wasn’t much. The bed just shook gently for a few seconds.
If you’re interested in this sort of thing, there is a nice little app for the iPhone & iPad called Tectonic, which shows earthquakes (and optionally volcanoes, tornadoes, and hurricanes) around the world. Right now it’s showing the Virginia earthquake and aftershocks, a 2.8 in the West, a 4.6 near Denver, as well as the usual near-continuous activity in California, Alaska, and elsewhere around the Pacific rim.
DC area here. Didn’t feel the aftershocks early in the morning, but WHOA NELLIE! The first one in the afternoon was huge.
I live in a 30+ yo building on the 13th floor. At first, I thought the rumbling was more construction from the unit above. When my fridge started to move, I figured it out. I could swear that the building was moving A LOT. My friend on the 5th floor says he didn’t notice it as much. I guess height really is a factor.
Anyone else feeling some small aftershocks now, in the last few minutes?
Ever since the quake, I’ve been feeling a lot of little vibrations and thinking that they’re seismic. I don’t know if there have been a lot of weak aftershocks, of I’ve just been hypervigilant and interpreting vibrations from wind, passing helicopters and such as aftershocks.
Please note, that in Washington DC, the School Without Walls is closed for earthquake damage. I am not making this up.
