Did we just narrowly avoid another shopping mall shooting?

Whether or not he was planning to shoot the place up or was only there to “exercise his 2A rights” he and his lawyers are going to claim the second.

Even as a strong gun rights advocate, I think those “exercise their rights” people need to stop exercising their rights on private property they don’t own (stores etc.) All they are going to do is exercise their selves out of a right by being a nuisance.

Meanwhile, in Kentucky;

We’ve reached the point where I’m onboard with getting rid of the 2nd and confiscating. Start from scratch after that, because otherwise we’re going to see shoppers wearing tactical bullet proof vests and helmets.

I’m pretty sure that everyone who wouldn’t rather personally murder people rather than lose the right to plink cans is in favor of, if not entirely eliminating the private gun ownership, severely restricting it.

Yep. Take em all.

I’m curious on what grounds the police detained the guy, or indeed even responded. I mean, you can carry all the guns you want, right? Being free to stroll through the produce section strapped up like Neo is what the Framers intended.

I am sure everyone here is aware of what Australia did WRT guns. Even tho they did not take all of them away (only about 20%), they still saw improvements in public safety…

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just talk about doing something in this direction, even if just a small step?

Disturbing the peace at a minimum. The store was evacuated.

This is one of the biggest problems with the 2nd Amendment, free-carry laws, concealed-carry, open-carry, etc. There is no difference between a law-abiding citizen, and a soon-to-be mass murderer, up until the moment one opens fire on a crowd. Even if one is toting AK-47s and masked up.

Yeah, even if you are a big 2A fan, come the hell on, there is a point at which you need to apply reasonableness criteria. Wanna carry in a public place? Act like a normal person carrying. Not like you are about to go outside the wire.

Christ… a good friend’s wife practices at a UofK Hospital in Lexington.

Yeah exactly. According to the police report he was charged with:

So apparently they determined he was planning to rob and/or shoot up the place.

Anyway, he’s just lucky he wasn’t carrying a toy gun or a BB gun. The police would have shot him on sight.

Most genuine supporters of the 2nd Amendment, even the ones who are kind of asses about it, don’t go around wearing body armor.

Wearing body armor is not inherently a sign of bad intentions, but it changes the statistical probability considerably.

So does loading up in the bathroom!

They’re going to “exercise” their rights away, by having a criminal record.

Even if you’re a strong second amendment advocate who argues that people have a right to carry a gun for self-defense, what justification is there for somebody carrying six weapons into a supermarket? Was he planning on recruiting a militia?

How about that for a start; limiting public carry laws in public spaces to one weapon.

Let’s see the NRA argue against that proposal. Let’s hear them say out loud that people have an inalienable right to carry as many weapons as they want into a store even though ninety-nine times out of a hundred it means a mass shooting is about to happen. Let’s have the NRA take positions so outrageous that people wake up and repeal the second amendment. Not as a step towards total confiscation but as a step to reasonable sane gun laws instead of the nonsense we have now.

That’s a question I want to ask somebody who argues in favor of carrying weapons.

You’re driving through your town. You have your loaded gun with you.

As you drive by the local elementary school, you see a man walking through the front door. He’s carrying an automatic rifle and several clips.

Do you:

  1. Use your weapon to shoot him and prevent the murder of dozens of children.
  2. Honk your horn at him and give him a thumbs up to show your support for him exercising his constitutional rights.

1, of course! I’m a hero, and the dead person won’t be able to say otherwise. Now, when the School Resource Officer responds to the sound of shots fired, do they:

  1. Blast away at the person standing there with a gun.
  2. First ask if the person with a gun is a good guy or a bad guy.

That’s the problem with the “good guy with a gun” axiom. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s who
