Funny. I’m the opposite. I was walking every day during my lunch when I worked at the office. When the quarantine hit, that all stopped and it has been very hard to get back to walking every day.
Average steps per day in the office = 6000
Aversage steps per day in the home office = 1000
We’ve been trying to go for walks in the evening, so we have some days with 15,000 steps, or even more. However we have a heat wave, so walking in the evening is out of the question, and walking in the morning is interrupted by work.
I wasn’t going to the gym before Covid and that continues. I’m considering going to the therapy center for personal training instead. Fewer people and it’s across the street.
Yep, before Covid, I had gym membership but was a very fair-weather visitor. Just lacked the motivation. I walked to work though.
When lockdown hit, I started running (we were allowed out for an hour a day for exercise). I’ve kept that up and, now that it’s too hot to run outside, the gym has reopened. I was a little leary of using the gym, but they’ve converted a couple of tennis courts into extra gym space so the machines are well-spaced. It’s also very quiet compared to normal times, so I’m finding it quite comfortable.
I’m also walking the dog every day - before I had a dog walker do that for me.
Haven’t changed anything. The shutdown order in this state doesn’t forbid outdoor exercising.
My usual daily exercise is a 25-30 mile bike ride. And if it doesn’t include a steep hill, it’s not much of a workout. While doing it, I’m more isolated than I am at home. So I never stopped and don’t even bother with a mask.
So I’m down 27.5 pounds now. Getting close to the self selected line between fat and obese. I know fat isn’t really a thing but I do feel there should be an area between overweight & obese. I need to drop 5 pounds to be just fat in my opinion.
Before March, I spent most of my time running at the local YMCA on their indoor running track, with occasional outdoor runs when the weather was nice.
Since the YMCA closed, I have been forced to run outdoors all the time–usually 5 miles per day. In March it was quite unpleasant, with many cold windy days and a few rainy days.
By June I realized the opposite problem was surfacing: I don’t run in hot humid weather very well.
So, I found the only treadmill left for sale in NJ at a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Union, had some burly guys bring it down to my basement (it’s 300 lbs), and have done all of my running on the treadmill ever since. I put up a surprisingly cheap 48" TV and I watch shows as I run.
By the time I had the treadmill, I had accumulated about 400 miles of post-COVID road running and my wrists had serious golfer’s tan from the wrist protectors I wear in case I trip and fall.
27# down, and just got a stationary bike.
I’ve stalled for 2 days after a week of fast weight loss. I have to start packing up more of my house and that will probably help.
Did you change your exercise habits during quarantine?
Yeah, I stopped. Was I not supposed to?
…
Seriously, my gym closed up. Then it opened, full of idiots breathing heavy. Our municipal pool, where I used to do laps, is full of people, too. Soccer and rugby? A little hard to play while distancing…
So no machines, treadmills, Nordics, laps or rugger … All I’ve got left is my bike. So I’ve been trying to counter-balance my stress eating with putting on some mileage. The bike paths are too full now, so I’ve been hitting side streets 'til I get to rural roadways.
