Did You Come Here Because of Straight Dope

IIRC I think the person I was monitoring might have been doing business with a Doper. So it’s kind of a once-removed random encounter. But still pretty cool! I wish I could remember more about it, but since the charges turned out to be legit it got erased from the memory banks. If you could see my fraud case binders you’d understand. Sort of resembles the Oxford English Dictionary.

I was aware of the column and owned three of the books, but that didn’t bring me to the message board.

I need to rephrase this. Although I wouldn’t have found the SDMB if I hadn’t
had prior knowledge of the column and books, I didn’t join here just because it seemed like a natural thing to do. Rather, I wanted to ask a specific question.

I found the boards because of the books. They were mentioned as part of AOL but migrated to the web just a few months before I joined.

I registered because of the quality of discussions.

It was the other way around. The SDMB used to be on AOL. That’s what got me onto the books.

I used to read the columns, then discovered the on-line archive. One day I sent a question to Cecil, and someone replied suggesting I try the SDMB. It took over a year for the question to be answered, but in the meantime I was hooked. Here is the question if anyone is curious.

I voted yes, but perhaps not in the spirit that the question was asked. I wouldn’t have known about this board had I not read Cecil’s column, but I did not join because of what he specifically would write or add here. I joined it for the discussions.

As usual, no answer is forthcoming; no doubt the OP is too busy starting other threads to respond.
