Did You Ever Play With Matches When You Were a Kid?

You have to wrap the foil tight to the matchhead at first, then roll it a little between your fingers to loosen it evenly all over - so it’s just about ready to slip off - then it will fly off as the match head flares.

At about age 12 or 13, we graduated from match heads and paper rolls of toy gun caps - and started mixing serious explosives and stuffing them inside things like crimped metal tubing, empty soda stream cartridges and the like. Very nearly blew ourselves right up more than once.

We also managed to make very successful bamboo rockets - well, about one in three would fly extremely high and fast - the other two thirds would just blow up very violently on the launch pad.
