Meh, I eat raw potatoes as a snack. The green parts are bitter [that is where the poison is] but if you pick potatoes that have no green on the skin, no poison.
I also used to snack on raw oats and wheat grabbed while walking through the field up to the woods to go hang out with other kids at the lake. I used to get in hot water with the raw foodies in a raw food listserve I used to hang out in. They claim that grains are all toxic and will kill you. sigh
I really don’t understand the love for kidney beans in chili. I find them to be nasty, and much prefer pinto or black beans. The only red beans I like are the Camellia brand that are used for red beans and rice.
Yes, I was well aware of this tidbit. In fact, I learned it the hard way: a friend once made a bean dish that included kidney beans; he’d started from dry beans. Unfortunately, they weren’t completely cooked through, so a couple hours after eating…
Yep. That’s what happened.
Incidentally, daffodil bulbs are also poisonous. And I know that from experience as well. Lesson Learned: When a farmer/gardener leaves you bulbs on your front door step, do NOT assume they were from his latest onion crop. ASK what the hell they are BEFORE ingesting.
This has been a public service announcement from Dogzilla.
Cook your kidney beans thoroughly and do not eat daffodil bulbs.
