Did you lurk?

I lurk quite a bit. I enjoy reading the threads and learning a little bit about things in the process. I don’t post very much because I usually can’t find very much to contribute that hasn’t already been said.
For example, this post. :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t lurk nearly enough to begin with, but jumped right in and posted in GD threads. As Desert_Larry I’m afraid I trod very near jerkitude (some Dopers would no doubt say I was already there), and was brought up short. I caught on fast, though, and have tried very hard not to be a jerk subsequently.

After the great crash I re-registered (with mod/admin permission) as DesertGeezer. I understand the spirit of SDMB debate much better now. But I also lurk more than I post, and often reconsider posts I’ve typed before submitting them. These days I write a lot more than fellow dopers see, and that’s proven to be a good thing. I’ve learned to moderate my opinions in the light of others’ cites.

See, ya can teach an old Geezer new tricks!

I have been lurking for over a year… registered +/- a month ago… posted once and was relatively ignored…

Hang in there pin, (may I call you pin?). The SDMB is nothing if not friendly. You’ll get the hang of it with practice and patience. No doubt you’ll make friends around here. Welcome to the boards!

Thanks for the welcome 'Geezer (Can I call you 'Geezer?.. heh). You can call me anything just don’t call me late for dinner.

I lurked for around a year, I wasn’t allowed to register till I was 13, so I waited.

No. I was directed her by a lurker friend who doesn’t have an account, found a thread I wanted to post to, registered, and haven’t looked back since.

I think I compensate for my everyday shyness by being a blabbermouth online.

I’m still lurking. I’ve never yet posted. This is just a figment of your imagination…

What? Oh.

Welcome to the SDMB!

I’m only relatively new to this board but I did lurk for several months before I actually posted. I was never one for contributing to boards before but as we all know this one is very different.

I still read more than I post but I do enjoy having my say on certain issues.

I lurked for two years or so before finally signing on and am still not active like some

I lurked for a few months, then decided to register because I wanted to respond to a thread, only to see that someone had already answered the question by the time I got back to the thread. Lurked for a few more months, and still do mostly. Every once in a while I work up the nerve to post, but I am still getting used to the board.

I first registered after reading a column by Cecil in March 1999 about Ni-Cad Batteries:

Thread Number 8 started by Rico

And after that, I think I went into lurk mode for almost a year.

But my user number is in the low 200s, and I’m apparently one of the old-timers here on the board.

What was that? Speak up sonny, I can’t hear you!

By the way, my 5 year anniversary on this board is March 16th!

Lurked a couple months before registering, stayed in lurk mode whilst gauging the depth and temperature of the water, then dove in. Always enjoy reading posts so much more than writing. The disconnect comes when I try to articulate those random semi-relevant thoughts I can bear to part with (shyness, thy name is Forlorn).

I didn’t really lurk, I read a few threadspotters, but that was it. It was the Wedding Ring thread that pushed me over the edge into registering, actually.

My lack of lurking experience isn’t so much of a big deal 'cause I keep my butt out of GD and the Pit, and I rarely am the first to happen upon a GQ thread to which I have a reply. So I mainly stick to IMHO and MPSIMS, where things are pretty casual and easy to figure out and I poke in on Cafe Society once in a while. Still, I end up deleting 1 or 2 replies every now and then.

Lurked, registered; lurked, posted… I guess I still lurk more than I post. By the time I’ve finished reading, I’ve quite often forgotten what I had to say.

My former job allowed me to bring my homeschooled children to work with me (part time work schedule) and one morning my daughter asked what the “dangly” thing hanging in the back of your mouth is called. I couldn’t remember, asked a co-worker, and he sent me a link to this board. (Hi Jim - hope you’re doing well!)

I lurked for a very long time before posting and still don’t post much because I usually find that what I want to contribute has already been said or I’m too busy learning from or laughing at the other posters responses. I read the boards almost every day and the few times I’ve started a thread my questions have been answered quite completely and usually very nicely, too!

I lurked here long enough that one of my early post refered to an "Opal Pie burning your dog with a 1920’s stye “Death Ray.”

Yes, i am a lurker. I love reading the boards, but I find that I only post on specific areas of expertise in GD, and very seldom in other forums. There’s such a wealth of knowledge, friendliness and camaraderie here that I find myself coming to the SDMB as my stress relief during the day and often the energy required for a serious and worthy response is beyond me.

I joined sometime in November 2002 and this is my 30th post. I lurked for a little bit in the beginning, maybe a couple of days or something, before I found something I felt like responding to, so I joined up and responded. Hardly ever posted until just recently, when I’ve started posting more. Otherwise I’ve mainly been lurking for like a year and four months or something, except for a handful of posts.
