Class of '95. Yes, my school did it. I was appointed “Most Humorous”. But the superlatives were pretty tame and joke-free.
No. We didn’t have any contests.
Class of '72 - we had it and the winners were pretty much a foregone conclusion. I wonder what became of them all…
The best thing about my yearbook (class of '96, and I have it here), are the captions under the pcitures. Each one had 2 sentences. Sentence #1 described the picture. Sentence #2 was some ridiculously lame comment about Sentence #2.
Actual captions:

oooh! This one’s good…
As to the OP, we did have Senior Superlatives, too.
I hated high school
Class of 2003.
We had voting for some awards (I was “Never To Be Forgotten”), but not a large number.
Winners of the vote were asked to have their picture taken in a posed shot by yearbook staff, with names included.
Our school didn’t do this either. It was a small school and the pecking order was pretty clear–no need to highlight it!
Yeah we had them. There weren’t too many surprises. I got “funniest” in Middle School. Another guy won out over me in High School (he was really funny).
We had this too - not “most popular” but “most friendly,” “best dressed,” etc. We also had the homecoming ballot system where there would first be a list of 20 boys and 20 girls that the whole school had to vote for, which would then be narrowed down to four and then two.
When I was a sophomore I actually cried after school when my name wasn’t on the initial list! (I was on it the next year, though.)
Class of '02. We did superlatives, but only the seniors were eligible, IIRC. I seem to recall that everyone got a unique one – everything from “most talkative” to “most likely to have newly dyed hair every Monday.”
I got “most gayest,” or something like that. It helped that I was the only openly gay kid in school.
Yes. I didn’t mind the one I got as a junior but my senior year we moved to a border town with a predominantly latino population and I was voted Most Macho. Oh joy.
We had them. We had a smallish class (120) and enough categories that about 2/3 of us got a mention. The third that didn’t make the list probably didn’t read the list anyway.
I was little bummed by mine.
I was the “teacher’s pet.” Eh, I guess I could see it, since, you know, my teachers tended to like me, and I them.
I really really wanted “best hair.” I’m a guy, and had been growing my hair out since sophomore year. I had long dark, thick spiral curls that were pretty darned awesome. The guy who won just had a short, blond typical boy-band/Abercrombie cut. Lame.
We didn’t have popularity contests, but the typical “mean girls” on the yearbook committee managed to get in their digs at people in the legacy/future section–I don’t know, the section where they say what people will be doing with their lives. One girl, who acted in a lot of theatre production and wanted to go into acting, had hers say “Shampoo girl” or something like that…so yeah, there’s bitchery everywhere.
We had Senior Superlatives at my high school, but they were pretty tame. Most Popular, Most Talkative, Most Original, Most Likely to Succeed, Mr. and Mrs. Camden High, that sort of thing. If you won one, you got to fill out your own section in the yearbook, and you couldn’t be put in unless you accepted the award, so the personal attacks and usage as a tool to tease were kept at the bare minimum. I think there were probably eleven or twelve superlative categories, and each one had a male and female winner, so 24ish people out of a graduating class of 550 got one. It was a moderately big deal. I won Most Dignified, somehow. If only they knew…
Class of 2002 here. You guys are in the esteemed presence of Hottest Car, 2002.
She was a 1997 Dodge Spirit. She was named El Espirito. She was beautiful, og rest her soul.
I also palled around with… what was her name?? Oh yes, Nicest Bum 2002, Nicest Hair 2002, the couple most likey to get married (and funnily, are about to) and Nicest Smile 2002.
Class of '99 here. We had them. I was shyest of course.
That’s okay though, I’m just happy to be on the team.
Class of '04.
We had the ‘most likely to become…’ thing back in sixth grade–this was at a tiny private school with an average class size of fifteen, maybe twenty at most.
By the end of public high school, you got a picture and a tiny quote box to write whatever about yourself.
Yeah, we had them (class of '06). I don’t think I knew many of the people who “won,” though, and I certainly wasn’t friends with any of them. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure I’m not even in any of my high school yearbooks. My name might be in there somewhere, but I can guarantee there’s no picture to go with it. I hated having my picture taken and never showed up for my yearly photo. I didn’t even submit a senior picture. My classmates have probably already forgotten what I look like . Not that I care, high school sucked.
We had them - class of 2000. The whole class voted. I won most artistic - didn’t even fix anything!
