Diet of female lead in T3?

I’m sure I glimpsed a “making of T3” the other day - but switched off as I didn’t want it to spoil the film.

However, I’m sure I saw the lead female talking about being put on a special diet. I’m sure that I must have remembered the details wrong, though as it involved being low carbohydrate, vegetarian, yet good for building muscle mass.

I’ve heard of the “Atkin’s Diet” but presumed that was for an omnivore diet. Is there really a vegetarian alternative (ie, no fish either)?

Or did I hear completely wrong?

I don’t know the answer to this, but I did read this somewhere: “The Atkins diet is not recommended for vegetarians.” I think the problem is getting the protein the body needs, while at the same time avoiding carbs.

I remember walking past the diet section in the local library and seeing a “Soy Zone” diet book, so that might be it. I will say that I’ve been weight-lifting for years and even when I wasn’t eating meat I never had a problem building muscle. (I did eat beans pretty much daily though.) Non-vegan vegetarians may also eat eggs and dairy products, which are high in protein. Some people’s definition of “vegetarian” also includes fish, though I’m not sure why.

I’ve been doing Atkins, but what I did read recently was that the body needs at least some carbs to build muscle. I can’t remember the exact chemistry, but I’ve now taken to having some of my carb allowance before going to the gym (eg fruit).

There was some study out recently where they put two groups of people on an equal calorie diet: Group A on low fat, and Group B on low carb. IIRC both groups lost equal amounts of weight, but A lost some muscle tissue, whereas B lost more fat.

In his book, “Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution” (the latest edition anyway), Dr. Atkins says vegitarians can follow his plan but not the Induction period (the first 14 days) and only if they will eat eggs and fish and maybe he also said poultry too.

Then again, that doesn’t sound too vegitarian to me

I think some of the ladies on the low-carb board I post to are vegetarians and have done just fine. Just a matter of getting your protein from soy and other vegetable sources.

who cares anyway? you people always try to find some idiotic gimmick to attempt a diet. if there is nothing stupid about the diet you will not even try it.

the only thing you need to do is consume enough protein and an exactly right amount of calories. THATS ALL.

i swear, the dumber the diet the more people love it.

OK, See…my problem with the Atkins diet is that it wont work for me. There are no “diets” for when you WANT to gain weight, or put on muscle / body mass. I’m 6’1 and 145lbs. I’ve got a metabolism that most supermodels would kill for. I eat alot, and I generally eat every 2-3 hours. While thats all fine and dandy…I’d like to put on a few pounds, and well…I CANT! I’ve been rock steady at 145lbs since High School (now in my final years of college).

Any reccomendations? Bear in mind…i’m looking for HEALTHY reccomendations. I already scarf down JBox, McDonalds and Taco Bell like crazy and it doesnt help at all, so thats not a solution.

and yes…I have considered finding a way to extract and bottle my metabolsim to sell it. I’d be a millionaire. My parents own the copyright however

No problem-o najniran ! Just wait until you’re 30. Your metabolism will STOP.:stuck_out_tongue:

Heh, well we’ll have to wait and see. But family history dictates otherwise.

najniran do you do weight training ? you cant expect to grow muscle without training. i know a guy who started at 130 lbs and went to 205 of lean muscle, all without steroids. he trains hard every day and he takes protein every 3 hours. he eats plenty of carbs too but you will never find him in McDonalds.

najniran in case the point did not come across. you are NOT to try and do the opposite of what people trying to lose weight are doing. the opposite of losing fat is gaining fat. gaining fat never made anybody look better. skinny and obese all benefit from heavy resistance training. or for that matter both skinny and obese benefit from ANYTHING that favors muscle building, such as high protein intake.

I do work out. Constantly. Although, perhaps not as much as your friend who went from 130 to 205. Between three sports in high school and weight training now, etc…I have not gained one pound. I’ve tried the protein shakes…the eggs, the carbs, etc…nothing doing. And yes…I do understand the difference between gaining / losing fat. My point was not that I’m “trying to look better” it was simply that I am unable to gain weight PERIOD. No matter what the diet involves.
