Dietary revelations courtesy of Chipotle

No, it doesn’t change any of that, but that is not the point I was responding to.

I agree, which is why the last time I’ve been to Chipotle was six years ago. There’s really no good reason to go with the other options available. That said, unlike Taco Bell, I don’t think Chipotle sucks. I think it’s somewhat bland and overpriced, but it’s not actively offensive.

Have ya done a cost analysis of the average Pizza? That’s about $0.12 of flour, $0.20 of sauce, $0.40 worth of cheese, and $1 worth of toppings in that $18 pie ya just bought.

Of course, that ignores rent, power, water, salary, advertising and profit.

That $1.50 starbucks coffee isn’t really worth $1.50 either.

We have a LOT of Breakfast Burrito vendors around here, charging from $2 to $3.50 for a burrito. I made a batch, in bulk, paying normal grocery-store consumer prices for the eggs, sausage, green chile, cheese, tortillas and potatoes (meaning you could pay LESS for the ingredients if you could buy them wholesale) and my cost for a breakfast burrito ran about $0.75 each.

There’s no telling how much profit there is in a $1 McDonalds hamburger. How much could there possibly be?

Burrito brothers has been out of business for quite some time. Too bad, ithey were my favorite of those places.

In all of the Chipotles I’ve been to in California, Nevada, Florida, Washington DC and Illinois all had the same prices. The price varies depending on what meat you get, with the cheapest being vegetarian and the most expensive being. . . I honestly can’t remember. The point is, the range is like, $5.75 for a veggie (I think) and a little more for a chicken. Usually mine is under $7 with tax. $8 is with a drink. This isn’t much to me, price wise, since the burrito is two meals easily.

Oh, and Googling around the internet seems to imply that the average Chipotle burrito is about a pound and a half. Here’s a picture of a dude and his burrito, for perspective. I, a woman, have to hold Chipotle burritos with two hands because it’s so big.

Also: I think their rice is delicious. I’m usually not a fan of rice in my burritos, but Chipotle is the exception.

They are? I know some of their locations didn’t last, but they seem to be open here, at least.

I see there’s a review saying they’re better than Chipotle, but the structure of the burritos sounds similar.

I’m a bit mystified by the anti-rice and beans comments; those are absolutely standard authentic burrito ingredients–not to say that every burrito must contain these, but the idea that rice in a burrito is “filler” and a scam is ridiculous.

Agreed. I’ve gone to many a taco stand/ local Mexican place (shit, I mostly go to ones owned by my friends’ immigrant parents. California! Holler!). Sure, tacos often do not have rice or beans (as opposed to Mexican Fast Food white people tacos), but the burritos always have beans and/or rice. I know this because I detest that salsa-y Mexican rice and always have to request that it’s left off.

I will say though: Chipotle isn’t Mexican food- it’s white people Mexican food to the max. It’s really not fair to compare it directly to authentic Mexican food, because that’s not what it’s meant to be.

You hold those monsters? That maneuver seems not quite feasible to me. I’ve often been wearing a nice dress when there, and there’s nothing for it, it’s simply knife and fork time. Although I loathe slicing through the foil and paper with those plastic knives. About as much as I loathe biting into the foil and paper. Peel away enough wrapper that you can avoid biting into it, and the whole construction will deconstruct onto your lap.* I’d really prefer a burrito I could safely hold in my hands.

*Thus illustrating the final teaching of the Buddha: “All that is put together shall come apart.”

There are instructions on how to eat the burrito without it ending up in your lap on the all the napkins. Link. You just peel a little bit as you go, then it never spills-- it also can stand up on its end this way.

Of course, I get bowls now. So, this really doesn’t apply to me
