Difference between Dari and Farsi

What’s the difference between Dari and Farsi/Persian?

What I know is that Dari is a Persian language spoken in Afghanistan whereas Farsi is a Persian language spoken in Iran. I believe the Persian language in Tajikistan is called Tajik. Are all of these simply different names for the same thing or are they different dialects?

Would someone who spoke Dari be able to understand and be understood by someone who spoke Farsi?

WRS

Dialects, but very similar ones. One site refers to them as the equivalent to the differences between French in France and Quebecois French.

Absolutely - they are apparently fully mutually intelligible.
