Different versions of Google Maps?

When I use Google Maps satellite view on my phone it is up to date as far as I can tell. But if I look at Google Maps on my computer the area near me dates from 2018 or so. I am comparing the dated satellite images on Historicaerials.com as a reference. It is quite easy to see this in Avon, Ohio, since the retail stores have been growing rapidly along I-90. Why doesn’t my computer shows the latest images?

Can you link to the specific area in Google Maps? “Share” the link from your phone.

Here is the one from my computer that is the one that is 6 years old. All the dirt areas north of I-90 are filled with stores today. You can see many of them with the names shown. Also if you click on streetview on I-90 you can see the stores. The phone version is fine.

Huh, that’s super interesting! Apparently, on the desktop, “Globe view” is enabled by default and shows older photos (but in 3D). If you click the “more” button, you can toggle it off and see the other set of photos, which is what the phone sees.

Example:
Avon OH 44011 - Google Maps - October 24 @ 05-56-44 PM · CleanShot Cloud

I never knew there was a difference. Thanks for sharing

Ah, that did it!
