I was just thinking that if one were say, in a wheelchair, with limited leg use, something like SCUBA diving might be a welcome past time. Granted you probably would have to use a lot of arm, but since you are floating, and presumably not in a great hurry, you could just sort of move around at your liesure. It seems like it would be a nice break from the surface world where everything is basically designed to be a pain in your ass/impossible obstacle. Am I an idiot, am I a patronizing “walking person”, etc.? I have been SCUBA dving once in the South Pacific and it was amazing. Any differently mobile Dopers (sorry couldn’t think of any other way to say it) who are into diving/swimming?
A wealth of information on this subject can be found at the Handicapped SCUBA Association website.
I am a PADI instructor and have often entertained the idea of becoming a HSA instructor as well. Drift diving in Cozumel is exhilarating. I imagine it would be more so for someone who is differently-abled.
