I got curious about what a balrog would look like, so I tried “flame demon with wings of shadow” (sinister style, coherent). I think it turned out suitably creepy:
So far (for me), spending more than one credit on the initial generated image does not provide for more satisfactory results.
You can upscale them for credits. Largest is 8,000x8,000 for 3 credits.
If this keeps going like this, SF paperback cover artists are going to find themselves out of a job.

I tried upsizing my favorite image so far to 8000x8000 (3 credits) and it failed and refunded the credits. I tried 3072x3072 (two credits) and it failed and refunded the credits. I did get it to do 1024x1024 (1 credit).

Someone I know is writing some online SF fiction and posted a “cover” earlier today. My first thought when I looked at it was that it reminded me of an AI image. Then I read “…harnessed the awesome power of Artificial Intelligence to create this alternate cover for my web serial”
It’s already happening!

I’m getting really curious about what its library looks like. I’ve tried some very obscure terms, and gotten art that does, indeed, seem relevant to those terms. I’m beginning to suspect that it does a Google image search for seed images, either every time, or every time it gets a word it’s not familiar with.
But on the other hand, when I tried prompting it with “Flag of Ukraine”, I got a white curtain, with just a tiny trace of yellow and blue in the corner. I mean, c’mon, you can’t get much simpler than that!
