Dilemma: Doves or Swimming Pool?

Tomorrow am was the big day…The workmen were going to start resurfacing our pool which was sorely in need of same.

On a hanging plant about 24 inches wide and about 15 feet from the work area is a dove who has been sitting on her nest for 2 weeks or so. My wife, upon learning that the jackhammering was to start insisted that no work take place until the newly hatched baby birds (two of them) are big enough to fly away. She fears that mama dove will get spooked with all the noise and leave her babies as orphans.

Moving the plant elsewhere may also spook mama she asserted.

I feel that her desire to postpone the entire project was stronger than my wish to proceed…so much to the chagrin of the pool people a cease and desist order was given.
Before you call me an animal hater, I’ll respond by saying I love animals of all kinds but my belief was that the dove would NOT abandon her babies unless she felt threatened by closeness vis a vis noise.

I’d like to hear what you people would have done in this situation. I should add that the pool contractor had scheduled all for tomorrow for some time and he and his workers are unable to return until Oct. because of a very busy schedule.

I would have gone ahead with the pool work. I’ve ssen birds nest in some pretty weird places without regards to noise and bother around them.

Unless they were gold-plated doves, I would have gone for the resurfacing. What’s the point of a pool you can’t use during summer? It is your summer isn’t it? And the pool is not useable until it’s resurfaced?

I would have eaten the doves.

Snooopy: A good fecal material sauce is suggested for you to enjoy the birds.

Just Curious:
Did the poolman lose out on business because of this?

Personally, I would have moved the plant.

I was thinking of having dove enchiladas. They look delicious!

Sorry, Snoop. I guess I bonded with the doves Since doves are eaten as you demonstrated, please accept my apology.:o
