Director Tobe Hooper has gone to that meat hook in the sky.

Imho Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a masterpiece of modern horror film. It relaunched the genre and lead to John Carpenter’s Halloween films, Wes Craven’s Nightmare on Elm Street Series and other films by dozens more filmmakers.

I enjoy Tobe’s leaser known film Eaten Alive.

Horror film directors are posting tributes to Tobe on twitter. I’ve always heard that Tobe was well liked & respected in the industry.

Here’s a compilation of his peers’ comments so far.

RIP Tobe.

Or not, as is your wish.

George A . Romero died July 16 and Tobe died Aug 26. Just 5 weeks apart.

It seems likely that Tobe was inspired by Romero’s work. I’ve never been able to confirm that.

Night of the Living Dead came out 1968. Texas Chainsaw released 1974.

Roger Corman is still alive and his production company is still cranking out B movies. Roger’s independent films throughout the 60’s proved that good movies could be made on a shoe string budget. The Little Shop of Horrors, House of Usher, and The Raven were low budget, but still entertaining.
