Our camera is set to save photos in both Raw and JPEG format. We use both for different purposes, but since we don’t know which file we’ll want when we shoot or save, we keep both on the hard drive (a Win 7 environment).
Keeping a directory with both file formats in it can be a pain. For example, if we’re on a slower computer and want to use Picassa to browse a directory with 50 images, it will preview/open all 100 files.
As a one-time solution I can copy *.raw and paste to a new directory. Great. But what about ongoing maintenance? What about the next series of pictures we save? What happens if we change the name of a directory (or even a file) in one section? Is there any way of automating this? Simplifying?
