DirecTV, is this the real price?

Recently, DISH network sent me a letter telling me they just couldn’t absorb any more costs, the ppor blighters, and they must raise my rate by $5 per month.

So, naturally, I began looking into other options. DirecTV offers their 150 channel package for 29.99 for one year, plus 6 bucks/month for the DVR service. However it notes that this price isonly good for one year, then it shoots up by another 23 dollars per month, to 58 bucks a month.

What I am trying to get a feel for is whether the $58/month rate is really enuine, or if they inflated it to make you feel like you’re getting a really good deal. Is anyone paying this rate for one of ther low-end packages? If you got the 12 month deal, are they willing to keep you on it at the end of the contract if you threaten to leave?

That’s the real price. I’m paying $57.99 for more channels than anyone would ever need (or want).

Our total bill is $105. The extras are a second receiver, DVR, DTV protection (we don’t pay for any maintenance or service calls), HBO, and the local channels. I love DirecTV. We’re now getting Showtime free for a year, just for being a five-year customer.

Unless you call and say you’re going to cancel, you probably don’t know what the best price you can get is.
