Dirty dishwasher? TANG!

Unbelieveable!

My wife’s parents are very resourceful people. They live several towns over and their municipality provides water for them (as does mine). We went there for lunch on Saturday, and I was noticing how clean the inside of their dishwasher was as compared to mine, which is just over a year old. Mine’s brown and discolored on the door, especially where the soap drips down after the little dispenser opens. It looked like a big coffee stain all over the interior. Their machine, probably ten years old, looks brand factory new on the inside.

Some random thread that I recently read suggested that I use bleach (but only in the rinse cycle) and I was ready to try that, but I asked mum-in-law if she had a trick to keeping it clean, or if maybe their water was so much cleaner and softer than ours that her machine never got dirty like mine. She told me to use Tang!

I had no reason to doubt her, other than the obvious thought that a coffee stain the surface area size of a small table would require some sort of aggrivation, but she offered to give me some to take and try. We left with a little ziploc bag full of Tang (which she owns soley for this purpose) and I loaded it into the dishwasher as I would the soap, filling the main soap catch as well as the little primary well without the cover, ran a normal wash without dishes (just a glass or two) and VIOLA! Amazingly clean, about 85% of the stains completely gone. One wet sponge while the machine was still warm and wet brought me to 90% clean. How cool is that?!!

Try it. You’ll like it! Even made the dispos-all smell all Tangy from the draining water.

I’m also told that it’s drinkable but deep down I’m really not that dirty… going to make a vodka and Tang now!

Heh!

The Navy has been using Big Juice powder as a cleansing agent for a long time. The red stuff works best, especially on brass fittings.

Any sort of citric acid works or any other very mildly acidic compound. Granted tang is probably the cheapest and easiest to use in a dishwasher.

Personally I buy those minute maid frozen lemon juice dohickies from the juice brick aisle at the grocery store and use em. Then my dishes smell like fresh lemon juice.
